Buckmark problem...

My father recently bought a used Buckmark Camper, and when we fired it today, it had some weird problems. We only put a few rounds through it:

The first fired and cycled, but the second round didn't go off. Might simply have been an ammo issue, I don't know.

The third fired, and I didn't see if the slide even came back. The round did not extract, and it seemed like a hard pull to get the slide back. When I pull it back, I was able to easily pry the case out with my fingernail, though.

When we got home, I took it apart and looked at it, but I couldn't see anything that looked wrong. Of course, we're both relatively new to shooting and the platform is completely new to us. In retrospect, I wish we had fired more rounds through it to see how consistant the problem was, but it's a bit late now. I do plan on taking it out this Tuesday, so I'll see how it functions then. Does anyone have any thoughts on this issue? I did clean it before we fired it and the extractor looked fine to me, but like I mentioned I'm new to the platform.

They need a little oil on the bolt rails until they hit 10K rounds or so, a fairly heavy oil is best. I have also seen wax from really crappy ammo build up in the chamber until it causes problems a lot like what you describe. I do not advocate cleaning 22 barrels but if the chamber is cruddy you will probably have to clean it.

Hmm... Will something like Rem Oil work? I put a thin coat on the moving parts of the pistol after I cleaned it, but I may need to apply a bit more...

Next time this happens check to see if the site rail is working itself loose. I had the exact same problem as you describe. I started having unreliable extraction and ignition. When i checked it it turned out that the action was ever so slightly working its way out of the top of the slide. This results in the extractor and firing pin getting out of line with the chamber. Ive gotten in the habit of checking those screws every 50 - 100 rounds at the range.

Ok, it may be that those screws need to be tighter than my leatherman will get them (trying to use that pseudo-phillips instead of going and getting an allen wrench that fits). :o

Remoil is FAR too thin and will be GONE before 100 rounds or 4 hours have passed. I prefer WD40 to Remoil...........

I prefer WD40
WD-40 is a cleaner and a water displacer, not a lubricant--regardless of the claims on the can.

RemOil is supposed to be thin. That thin liquid is just the carrier for the teflon lubricant which stays after the thin liquid evaporates.

I realize that John, but I find Remoil to be so poor that WD40 works BETTER regardless of what the intended use is. Remoil is only second to the Remington Dri-Lube in the running for the poorest gun lubricant available IMO.

I would recommend you also try some fresh ammo . Make sure it's a high velocity load and preferably a plated bullet like Win Super X , Rem Golden or Fed Classic . Cheap ammo is the cause of most of the problems we see in our store .

I have used WD 40 as a cleaner/solvent for really dirty guns . As a lubricant , it turns to a varnish like substance after a while . I would pick the Rem-Oil over WD 40 . Given a choice , I like TW-25 or Break Free CLP .

it may be that those screws need to be tighter

Over-torqueing the screws will distort the sight mount - it's plastic. Use some blue Lok-Tite and they'll stay put.

I use FP-10 for clean and lube.
