Off hand, I can think of two Warren Zevon songs which include guns; Send lawyers, guns and money (the s**t has hit the fan) and his references to the Glock on the bedside table in 'Don't knock on my door if you don't know my rottweiler's name'. Any others?

By the way, FCoelho points out that Mr. Zevon's last album, 'The Wind' is due for release tomorrow. Mr. Zevon has a terminal illness, and won't be with us much longer. Fans might want to say good bye by picking this up while he can still see the support.

"Willie on the Plate", the S&W M29 8 & 3/8" barrel lying on a dinner plate on the back of the album cover of Exciteable Boy. I don`t know if he coined that phrase.

How about "Bad Luck Streak In Dancing School" with the Ingram on the floor and the spent cases next to it.

Here is a link (http://forum.amback.com/viewtopic.php?t=159) to some info I’ve gathered recently on his health condition.

On the VH1 special you can see his condition worsen as the show covered the recording of the album. He wanted to see his grandkids born and he wanted to finish the album. He was given the time for both. Now we can all show him how much we appreciate his music by picking up his last album.

Hi evryone, I think Warren Zevon is great. His lyrics are witty and cynical and very insightful. I'm not sure what that says about me.

"I got a thirty eight special up on a shelf if I start acting stupid I'll shoot myself."

Thats a gun one. I wpould recommend WZ to anyone but he is not for all tastes. I will miss his work.

Warren is a great one! I pre-ordered his album, just waiting on shipping now. I have almost all of his stuff, have listened to him for years.

In one of Hunter S. Thompson's books there's pics of them shooting together.

In Hollywood he's a rarity and I will miss him.

For those that haven't pre-ordered the album it should be available nationwide today. Go out and get your copy or order it online!

...I can't believe no one mentioned "A Bullet for Ramona." It was on "Dead or Alive," his first album.

A Bullet for Ramona
written by Warren Zevon and P. Evans, c. 1970, United Artists/c. EMI Capitol Music Special Markets, 1996

Oh, today I shot Ramona, Ma
She ain't gonna cheat on me
Two years, I've been searchin' for her
Two years, she's been free

Well, I found her in a dance hall in Laredo
And she told me that she wanted only me
And I held her in my arms the way I used to
But when morning came she begged me to set her free

Oh, today I shot Ramona, Ma
She ain't gonna cheat on me
Two years, I've been searchin' for her
Two years, she's been free

Well. I tried and tried to ride away and leave her
With my head hung low, teardrops filled my eye
I rode back to town and found her with a drifter
And I knew right then Ramona had to die

Oh, today I shot Ramona, Ma
She ain't gonna cheat on me
Two years, I've been searchin' for her
Two years, she's been free

Well, I'm writing you this letter from Laredo
And tonight I'll ride across the Rio Grande
If I never live to see another sunrise
You know, I loved her
Ma, I hope you understand

Oh, today I shot Ramona, Ma
She ain't gonna cheat on me
Two years, I've been searchin' for her
Two years, she's been free

Oh, today I shot Ramona, Ma
She ain't gonna cheat on me
Two years, I've been searchin' for her
Two years, she's been free

I can't believe no one mentioned "A Bullet for Ramona." It was on "Dead or Alive," his first album. That's cuz he hated it so bad he saw to it that it was never, ever, available again anywhere, and had (still has, for all I know) a cash bounty out for any copies returned to him. Didn't think it was all that bad, myself, but... Artists.

From "Carmelita":

Well, I'm sittin' here playing solitaire
With my pearl-handled deck
The county won't give me no more methadone
And they cut off your welfare check

Warren's one of the greats.

Best,
Joe

I heard his rendition of "Knock, Knock, Knockin' on Heaven's Door" this morning on the radio. A sad day for Zevon fans. There is a reference to guns in that song as well. Something like "I can't shoot my guns no more".

Kind of off topic, but ...

Warren Zevon, a singer and songwriter who came up with hard-boiled stories and tender confessions of love, died on Sunday at his home in Los Angeles. He was 56.

The cause was cancer, which was diagnosed last summer.

Mr. Zevon had a pulp-fiction imagination that yielded songs like "Werewolves of London," "Poor, Poor Pitiful Me," "Lawyers, Guns and Money" and "I'll Sleep When I'm Dead." They were terse, action-packed, gallows-humored tales that could sketch an entire screenplay in four minutes and often had death as a punchline. But there was also vulnerability and longing in Mr. Zevon's ballads, like "Mutineer," "Accidentally Like a Martyr" and "Hasten Down the Wind."
