Hey 870 gurus....a question. I just picked up what I think is a M.M. BBL at a garage sale. It looks to be 18.5 inches, and seems to have Remington factory markings. Has Remington produced other BBLs with a finish similar to the MM, or do I have the official version? I also picked up a 1 round mag extension from which someone has removed the sling attachment. At some point in the near future, I will pbly. sell this stuff in the classifieds, but I want to be sure I know what I am selling before I advertise. Thanks in advance!

I don't think Remington has produced anything similar, but there are lots of refinishers out there who can color a barrel just about any way you want (although I can't imagine why someone would pick that color for refinishing . . .I'm guessing your barrel should be real.) Mine is in the very, very back of the safe. If I get a moment I'll go check and see if it has any special markings (other than color) to differentiate it from the other 870 barrels.

A genuine factory Marine Magnum barrel will have:

Remington factory markings.

An 18" to 18 1/2" barrel.

A satin nickel finish inside and out.

A Cylinder Bore choke. (Marked on the left rear of the barrel).

A bead front sight.

A magazine extension/magazine cap retaining plunger in the left front of the barrel support ring.
