Wheel gun/ Reload question

I recently picked up 158gr SWC .38s for my GP100. They were reloads from Miwall Corp.

I blasted about 70 rounds through the gun with no problem. Went home and started the cleaning process.

After running my boresnake through the barrel I took a peak inside to see how clean it was.

:what: What I saw I had never seen before. It was as if there were a few tiny valleys and peaks near the chamber end of the barrel. They looked somewhat jagged in appearance. I ran a several patches of Hoppes through it. No help.

So I took the 9mm brush and wrapped a patch through it. The mopping effort helped a little. A few more applications of Hoppes and a little bit of Breakfree took it out. The little jagged edges were silver in color when they came out and the bore was nice again.

Is this what people refer to as "leading" The GP100 has been shot every times but I have less than 300 rounds through it. The barrel appears to be nice and smooth with no burrs. Accuracy is great......

I'm a little puzzled as I have never shot lead reloads.

TIA

PS I expect an answer in less than 10 minutes for this post as just about everything I post in the Wheelgun section is answered pretty darn quick and usually by Jim March :)

Welcome to wonderful world of leading. Your choices: Elbow grease and bronze brushes and Hoppes 9 or Lewis lead remover. Hard cast or Gas checks helps

"Gunbright" works pretty well too. Anybody know if there is any material difference between this stuff and regular pot scrubbers of similar apperance? The pot scrubbers are cheaper.

Chore Boy is that copper pot scrubber you're looking for. Takes it right out and makes you and your Ruger happy (and the Supermarket).

4v50 Gary,

How do you use the Chore Boy and do you use Hoppe's No. 9 with it?

Do you put the chore Boy on a jag?

If it works the same way as the gunbright I just wrap a length of it around a brass bore brush, can be kind of a pain to get off the brush if it tangles, but it does a very good job. I usually run a patch of hoppe's through it first and let it set a bit before scrubbing.

Thank you, WheelMan,

I'm going to try this.
