I just started reloading recently. Am learning on 6.5X55 Swede and so far, so good.

My question is this:

I am looking at a rifle in 22BR that says it has a .246 neck. Does this mean that I need to use a neck sizing die in addition to the standard full length sizing/depriming die?

Also, what is the standard neck for 22BR? My Speer manual has it a .250.

Can 22BR brass be purchased or is it necessary to fire form another size for use in BR. It looks like pricey stuff.

Short version is that fitted necks allow the gun to be used without ever resizing brass. The idea is to allow the neck just enough room in the chamber to allow the bullet to escape upon firing, but not enough room for the neck to expand so much that it "takes a set" in the expanded position. The latter is, of course, the way things normally work in a gun and is why brass needs to be resized after each firing.

I would stay far away from fitted necks until you've become a very experienced reloader. Obviously the tolerances involved need to be held very close. There's actually a lot of leeway for most reloading operations, but fitted necks simply need to be done correctly. Screwing it up carries consequences.

Glockdaddy, there are many standard caliber now that were at onetime wildcats, all good ones and a lot less work to load and shoot.
