Is the RRA supposed to be a better gun? What are the pros and cons of each? (I don't care about any price difference.)

Thanks,
Steve

In my research I would choose Bushmaster.

Bushmaster uses better steel for the barrel, chrome lines the barrels and chambers of all the guns except the DCM match type guns, seems to have better customer service and tends to have a better fit and finish. They cost more than RRA but lately, at least locally the price difference isn't very much.

I have heard RRA has better triggers though and they do offer some pretty cool uppers. Wait times for orders seem to be very long.

I just feel like the best AR-15 on the market right now for an all around do it all AR-15 is the Bushmaster. Besides I like the idea of giving that company money.

Just my 2 cents.

Chris.

i love my RRA. it's a a 1:12", 24" varmint. shot a few .25" groups with LC and BH ammo yesterday. the trigger is probably one of the best out there. that's what sold me on it over a Bushy.

I have been around a WHOLE LOT of ARs in the last several years. I can honestly say that none of the name brands have given any problems. RRA is one of the cheaper ($) name brands, and their quality is every bit as good as the others.

A, B, C and R's :)

the wait on the RRA's was due to the move to a new facility...

I have both and must recommend the RRA. I don't know what steel is used in the barrels or all the technical details that the other guys on this forum know, I just know that my Bushmaster has been a jammomatic and my RRA has never had ANY problems.

Also good(in my experience): DPMS and Colt.

If RRA used 4150 barrel steel and chrome lining I would buy one. Since they don't I'll stick with Bushmaster. BTW both of my Bushys are 100% reliable.

I am totally satisfied with my Bushy XM15 E2S A3 with 20 inch barrel. It is accurate and absolutely 100% reliable. This great company (Bushmaster) needs to be commended.

I recently chose a Rock River over both Colt and Bushmaster. You can get RRA chrome barrels for a slight charge on most of their guns, at least that was what I was told. Personally I don't see the need for the 4150, I have a semi automatic rifle so the difference should never be noticed. The fit and finish on my RRA is second to none, much better than the Bushmaster I was going to purchase and every bit as good as Colt's. The trigger is also much better on the RRA's. Honestly though if you go with any of the bigger names you should be alright.

My DPMS suits me just fine.

It's a shame that Hesse doesn't make an AR entry. :D

Bushmaster is probably closer to mil-spec than most other brands, so that's what I went with. I'm happy with mine. (Note that NO currently manufactured civilian legal AR-type rifle can be true mil-spec, as mil-spec rifles are legally machine guns. And have flash hiders.)

they all work fine and its just like trucks should I get a doge or a chevy or a ford or what ever.

I have had colts, rra's and bushmasters and they have all worked fine.
price wise its going to be dpms then comes rra's.
I use rock river arms because they have served me well with way over 5,000 rounds threw them every year in competition without any problems.

actually a stock out of the box rock river arms dcm rifle with the wilson 1-8 twist barrel was used to win the camp perry competition in highpower week for service rifle for a civilian.

so that tells me more than anything else you could ask for.
its not about who's is best its the person behind the trigger as they all can get the job done.

I spoke to RRA today. They said their chrome-moly barrels are 4140 steel. Is this inferior to 4150 steel? How so?

Also, they said they only offer their 2-stage trigger on their complete guns. Are these durable?

Thanks again,
Steve

The merits of 4150 come in with full auto weapons. Same as chrome lining. I really believe a non-chrome lined AR will serve most purposes well. Denny Hansen from SWAT Magazine had an Oly AR that wasn't chrome lined abd it went 80,000 rounds.

I'v got a RRA car15,I'v been shooting it about 3 years now. Most of the ammo I'v shot with it has been Russian & reloads. The gun has 3000+ rounds thru it with no major problems.
