while shooting the other day, the barrel blew out just below the choke tube. i have a pic if someone would host it for me i could post it. bigest question on my mind is, will remington replace this for me at no cost, since the barrel is obviously defective? i've emailed them with no reply and its day 2, so i'm turing this one to you guys, anyone have prior experiece with remington?

CALL Remington and find out where the nearest authorized service center is. Take it there and they will send it out to be looked at on Remingtons dime. Buy a new gun to take its place if you hunt, it likely will not be back in a reasonable amount of time. This is the perfect time to get that 870 everyone needs to have. Send me the pic and I will put it up for you.

NO warranty work experience, but my other interactions with Big Green and their phone zombies left something to be desired.
Log when, where and who you talk to, and record the results. Be ready to ask for supervisors' names.
And go get a USED 870 like H says to. It'll show you that once upon a time, Remington was the best there was....

I assume no one was injured , thankfully , or I'm sure you would have told us .
Included with your owners manual is a list of warranty repair stations . If you don't have it , e-mail me and I'll direct you to a station near you .
I am pretty sure what they will say . I'm not trying to accuse or be argumentative , but I've seen this happen on more than one gun . Not only Remington . In most cases it was caused by an obstruction in the barrel . A cleaning patch left in it , a base wad from cheap ammo or a reload lodged , mud or snow , etc . You have nothing to lose by sending it to them for inspection . I wouldn't waste time with e-mail or phone tag .
Good luck
