Hi there!
I am starting this thread to see if there is any interest in learning how to customize the 1911 grips. I have built grips for sometime now and have put a lot of custom work on them. I will be posting some of my work for you to view. If there is anyone that would like to learn the art, I will be more than happy to share some of the techniques that I use. I also need to learn more about it and may be asking some questions.
In this picture is a set of Mesquite Burl grips that I made, and then customized them for a Navy Seal. The first photo is of the entire grips, the second and third is a close up of the custom work. He described what he wanted and I drew it for him and he liked it. He wanted a skull, and a unit number carved on one grip and the Trident pin inlaid in the other one. He was very happy with them, and that gives me a lot of satisfaction. I hope you enjoy the pictures I will be posting every day or so on this thread. If you have never started a project like this, now is the time. The woods are so beautiful; each piece is different and has its own beauty. When I start a set, I can hardly put them down until I have the finish on them.
Enjoy.
