California Legal FAL...

i just found a source for california legal FALs. there is a catch. it can only be had in neutered configs. if it has a detatchable mag, then it can only be sold without a pistol grip, or pistol grip stud. if you wanted to get a pistol grip later on, you would have to buy a whole new lower.
the second config would be to buy it with a pistol grip, but with a FIXED mag. it can be made into original config with detatch mags, with a little work with a drill and a set of allen wrenches.
is anyone familiar with what i'm talking about? and if you are, tell me which option is better. when the law changes, i want to be able to change to original config with as little trouble as possible. i guess i'm an optimist.

Sorry, you're SOL. The laws in Kali aren't gonna change anytime soon. With Davis giving the illegal immigrants licenses to drive, there's gonna be a whole new level of voter fraud to add to the Democratic voter bloc. This state will be ruled by the Democrats and they're not gonna trust joe american with an evil black rifle. Save up, get an M1A, or go cheap and get an SKS.
Careful how you phrase your questions about converting legit firearms per Kali standards into something else.

http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=25959 has a (few) more details on the second configuration you mentioned.
Be careful how you phrase things, you wouldn't want anyone reasonably inferring criminal intent...

www.tapco.com has lower recievers for around $30 stripped. If you move, or the ban disappears, you can just swap the parts from the gripless lower to the replacement and enjoy the pistol grip.
Please note that you *WILL* need the buttstock and pistol grip tool (to install the pistol grip, just unscrew the guide rod from the buttstock tool, the nuts are the same size), that recoil spring seems like its 2m long and shoved into an itty-bitty recoil tube; it could take out a few teeth if you arent careful when wrenching on the nut that holds it in.

Mark at Arizona Response Systems makes a Kali legal FAL.

ARS FAL Kalifornia Legal (No Pistol Grip)
As we understand current Kalifornia Department of Justice interpretation of the California SB23 ban and the Roberti-Roos ban, we can manufacture on your supplied parts a semiautomatic rifle with no pistol grip. The pictured model is a metric rifle incorporating a DSA 10 round magazine. We can only manufacture this type of rifle on a metric-pattern trigger assembly as the inch-pattern pistol grip contains the trigger-return assembly. Rifle is shipped with one DSA 10 round magazine, however as we understand Kalifornia law, standard-capacity magazines lawfully possessed in PRK prior to 01-01-2000 may be utilized. There is no additional charge for modifying your rifle in this manner. You can install a pistol grip when moving to Free-America.

the pistol grip stud is left on? i would then only need a pistol grip to make it normal? i would not need a whole new lower, because the stud is left on, and all i would need is the pistol grip of my choice.

Why in the Blue Moon would you spend 1K plus on a non ergonomic black rifle? You are probably going to need 8" stick fingers to pull the trigger on the CA legal FALs.
If you want a .308 battlerifle listen to Sactown. Buy M1A or Build an CA legal M14 pattern rifle. You wont regret your purchase.

ARS does not guarantee that these are in fact Cali legal.
They simply state that it is their understanding that this should be legal.
Buyer beware.
That extended bolt where the plastic grip used to be still looks like a serviceable pistolgrip to me.
I've seen them where it was completely removed and flush. -Seems like a better attempt to comply with Cali laws.
