Hey What is the consensus on the P22? I am thinking of the shorter barrel. I am considering a P99. I wanted the P22 for fun and practice.

I just picked one up and enjoy it. The DA trigger, though, is an absolute bear to the point you need a tow truck to fire. SA, though, is nice and crisp. A fun gun to enjoy shooting overall.
Did a slight test with different ammo. The only problem rounds were shorts, for obvious reasons. It fed the hypervelocity, standard, and subsonic without a hitch. It even liked the 60 stuff.

I have the 3.4" barrel version and have been utterly pleased with its performance and accuracy. I bought it used, so can't say how many rounds have been thru it, but the (Wal-Mart) Federal bulk-packs run just fine in it.
Its a good plinker, and informal target gun, and it has been reliable enough that I recently made arrangements to buy a second.
The first, lately loaded with CCI Velocitor ammo, accompanies me while mowing my place, and this pistol/ammo combo recently dispatched a skunk that thought it could take up residence in my tractor shed, plus has quite a few turtles and two snakes to its credit as well.
Good little guns, IMO.

I got one last month, 3" barrel, for my son (11yr old) to shoot when we go to the range ($249 NIB).
We have ~700 rounds thru it and no problems. We also use the bulk pack from Wally world. :D
While I did get it for my son, I have found that I like to shoot it also.

Got one to teach my daughter on and I love it. Planning on picking up another because she don't like Daddy shooting "her" gun so much. We have put about 700 rounds through it so far without a problem.

Is $249 NIB standard for the price or did you just get a good deal? I've been trying to find a good .22 gun that's easy to use and maintain and looked at the Walther -- but how many rounds does it hold? Their page doesn't say....

Holds 10 rounds. $249 for the 3.4in and about $299 for the 5in is about standard down here in Florida.

My experience is similar to Jake's. I bought the P22 to teach my son how to shoot a pistol. He loves it! We have put a few thousand rounds through it, with only a few problems, mostly with Winchester bulk ammo. But then that stuff wouldn't shoot in my son's Ruger 10/22 either. The P22 shoots Remington Golden bullets and Remington High Velocity without a hitch, and it really loves CCI Mini-Mags. As long as the barrel nut stays tightened, it is surprisingly accurate. I also paid right around $250 for mine.

My ammo experience is exactly the opposite of Doug's. My P22 (5") loves the Winchester bulk and hates the remington golden bullet. But yeah keep the barrel tight and it does good.

I shot a friend's P-22 with the short barrel recently and was pleasantly surprised. The grip was very comfortable. The DA pull was kind of long, but smooth. The SA had a short reset and broke very nicely--in fact, I loved the SA trigger on this gun. At 15 yards distance, it was surprisingly accurate, as I easily made a dime sized ragged hole with two clips of ammo. I liked it enough that I am thinking hard about getting one myself ...
