Interesting....

...however, in a real situation, I think you'd have to worry about a lot more than empty water bottles & football players... :what:

yeah when we did the after actions review we went over all the what ifs an coulda happeneds. it was interesting working with the metro an highway patrol! although they tend to act really elite. they were still pretty decent to work with. since it was a training mission yeah the rioters didnt have there own sticks clubs, guns, knives an ouchy hurts.......but then we werent using the normal cs gas an others bad boy be good stuff either.

it was good training with a real world mission. as an NCO it was good to see something of this level come down the pipes. for once a mission or week of training wasnt "filler" or hip pocket training. not that HPT is a bad thing but its good to have an actual mission

John,

I was just going to comment on your initials. Seems like everyone talking about JBT's around here must have been talking about you and just using your initials instead of your name.

Willy-

Saw the pic of your guys "on the line". Might I suggest some hand protection for the guys with sticks? If the other side brings sticks too, there's a real risk of broken fingers once they start swingin'.

Just a thought.

"We want this to gradually progress, just like it normally would," gang unit Lt. Cindy Galindo told the volunteer protesters. "We want you to get progressively more aggressive."

The disturbance began simply enough when a group of about a half-dozen protesters approached a National Guard member who manned the door of the building that held supplies of Doxycycline and Ciprofloxacin, which supposedly inoculate against and cure the pneumonic plague.

"You've got to wait your turn," the member at the door explained, but the crowd did not care about that.

"We want medicine," they chanted, and the Guard member radioed for help.

More protesters joined them, and they crowded the building's entrance.

Then Ferguson showed up.

"When are you going to start releasing that frickin' medication?" he screamed. "We want the stuff, and we want it now!"

A moment later, a group of officers from the Las Vegas Police Department's gang unit came around a corner, banging their batons on protective shields.

The officers appeared ready for just about anything. They wore helmets with full face shields, bullet-resistant vests and protective coverings on their legs.

"This is an unlawful assembly," their leader bellowed from a megaphone. "If you do not move back, you will be subject to arrest."

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Just a talking point... ;)

stickjockey!

i was all for that! unfortately funding an logistic prevented the hand protection. ordinarily we would wear black leather gloves.............but the military is a stickler for uniformity so if 1 wont wear em we are all screwd.

train as you fight! train to the standard! not to time an conveniance

hey Tamara! escelation of force. freedom to assemble is freedom to assemble. our role was the protection of property that was about to be trespassed

Just checking on that. Wanted to get a discussion going, is all.

(I've often wondered if premature introduction of the guys in riot gear may not be an inadvertent escalation of force in and of itself. I know it's a delicate call, deciding the proper time for the cats with the shinguards and batons to show up and all, but I sometimes wonder if having them arrive too early as a precaution can't trigger a "Well, the riot cops are here; guess it's time to start throwing bottles" reaction. :uhoh: )

funny thing was............we the guard were there to relieve/back up the cops! we came to there rescue! it was funny too cuz they were gettin whupped. (it was in the 100s)

even funnier! even though i had a shield an a face mask it still took a concious effort to keep from flinching when water and plastic bottles were thrown on us. another note! if your ever in a riot do not distinguish your self. our name badges an ranks caused a focus by some of the smarter leaders in the crowd. same goes for the mob. anonymous is safety
