Local shop has a used Valmet Lion 12 gauge for sale and it caught my eye-nice looking, great condition, and I've always wanted a o/u. I did a search and didn't find much info on these shotguns. Anybody have any experience with them? Thanks.

I would jump on it if I liked it. Valmet is made in Finland by Sako, IIRC.

Very nice shotguns. A friend I shoot with has one, well made and shoots well. Valmet also make combo guns as well as O/U rifles on the the same frame I believe. Currently made by another manufacturer.

In 1932 Remington brought out an over/under shotgun like no other. It was in the middle of the depression. It was new, it was different, it was expensive. Of course it flopped, only 6050 built over 16 years. Probably assembled the last few out of parts on hand after WW II.

But they are still being made.
Kreighoff makes the fancy version, Valmet-Tikka the plain jane.

I have a 3200 Remington , and an older late 70's Tikka, it is a 30-06/12ga combo gun. It is well made but not a 3200 Remington by my standards in handling or operation. I have a friend with an 80's Tikka 3 barrel set who uses it( with shotgun barrel!) for sporting clays and does well! I see Tikka's ocasionally for $1800 for 3 barrel set to $800 for a shotgun, $1000 for a combo gun.:)

Does anyone have a picture of the Valmet lion?

I have a Valmet 412 that I purchased around 1980. I shot tons (read 10s of thousands of rounds, (wads and primers by the 5K and shot by the pallet) and it still shoots well. finish is a little worn, locking lever moves a touch past 6 oclock when closed but still tight . My $00.02.

Now I just have to find a mount for the 412S - small dovetail.

Did you ever have any luck finding a mount ? I would like to get one to mount a 30mm scope to a Valmet 412
