Hello Everyone,

I have got some extra money in the gun fund and want to buy a another gun :), I want either a 9mm, 40, or 45. Maybe even a .22 but not sure.

I have a $475 limit and I am open to anything. Any suggestions?

I love these threads. Few restrictions, much debate... unbridled opinion tossing! Love it!

I don't care what anybody says. Don't get a Glock or an XD or any tactical guns. They're great, and I have quite a few, but they're soulless and "run-of-the-mill". Get something sexy and fun!

Also, don't listen to the folks who chime in and simply say, "Get what you want." Pfff. Why ask then, eh? ;)

Or the "Get what fits you" or "Get what you shoot best". Well duh. Those are disposable opinions too. :D

I say go with a real nice Ruger MKII. Check out Gunbroker. That's where I got mine. Never looked back! http://www.thehighroad.org/images/icons/icon14.gif

Well that depends on what you are looking for could be a shotgun, rifle, or pistol either revolver or semi auto.

I dont think you can go wrong with anything in 22lr no matter which type of gun you choose. Although you wont find them in a shotgun.

What would I buy if I had the extra money?
22 in a lever action you can find Marlins, Henrys, Brownings, and even some Winchesters in the $475 range. All of them are good guns but I'd personally choose the Henry Golden Boy for under $400 simply because I like the way they look and feel.

i also wouldnt mind having a Ruger Single Six in 22lr/22 mag. A Marlin in 357/38 would also be high on my list.

If I was looking for a high power rifle Id want one in 30-06, should be able to find new Savage for well under $475, or good used Rugers, Remingtons, as well as others in the same price range.

Shotguns Id recommend anything by Remington, Benelli, Browning or even Mossberg.

I really like 1911s but hard to find in that price range.

The extra $500 I had to spend this month was spent on ammo and high capacity mags for some guns I already own. No telling what this next election will bring us.

Like my boss always used to say "Without ammo that rifle is nothing more than a very expensive club"

Just my 2 cents worth hope it helps.

Just for grins I wnet to the sportingarms.com web-site and did a search on "pistol" and maximum price of $475. I got 536 hits. If I change it to revolver and $475 I get and additional 303 items. I guess you have a lot to choose from. Oh based on the calibers, I assumed it was a handgun.

Consider buying what you are most likely to shoot. Given the cost of ammo, maybe go with .22.

Since you're saving a bundle on ammo, put some funds aside to have it suppressed:

Get an AK! Good, cheap fun. And practical. Also likely to be one of the first ones banned, If that happens, they will surely go the same way as pre-ban machine guns that can be registered. (check the valuation of a Thompson or a full-auto AK)

Since you didn't mention usage, I'll give you my short list of the next things I want. Feel free to plagirize.

I'm in kinda a pistol phase right now so I would be looking at stuff like this:

http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=103589536

or a P22 and save for a suppressor.

Maybe a Cap and Ball revolver? (Always fun to make noise and smoke).

SAA clone (in .45LC)

Thw new PPS lokes cool too, although I haven't held it yet.

Not a huge 9mm fan but I'm toying with getting an M9 to be a companion to my 1911's

But long guns have their place too; so:

CMP's got good prices on M1 Garands.

The GSG-5

AR Parts. (I just orderd 3 lowers)

What ever you buy make sure you buy a good supply of ammo for it.

Kind of depends on what you already have. If you have none of the above, definitely get the .22. The Ruger that Thernlund posted is great, it just needs a longer barrel so it doesn't look so stubby. :D Buckmarks are great, too.

If you have a 1911, howzabout a Marlin Camp 45 to share mags. Much fun.

If you have a huuuuge 9mm stockpile, see if you can round up a Calico in 9mm. :neener:

You need a good S&W .38 Spl revolver. Can't beat them for the fun factor, and they're good for self defense too.

Hello!

I would get a 22LR in a nice single action revolver (Ruger!) and/or a 22LR in a lever action rifle like a Browning BL 22, Winchester 94-22 if you can find one, a Marlin 39A or a Marlin semi automatic rifle-Papoose with a case. If you have any left over money, depending what you buy, stock UP on ammunition.

Bulk pack - 550 rounds of FEDERAL would be nice.

Best wishes!

The Sherriff, you really need to narrow things down a bit. It's like doing a Google search for 'And'.:scrutiny::p

Any 22. You can shoot the snot out of them.

A Ruger MK anything, a Single-Six or Bearcat, even a 10/22 rifle if you don't have one already.

If you want to get something really nice look for a Smith & Wesson Model 17. You'll probably need a few more bucks for that though. They seem to be running around $500.00, but it's a gun you'll treasure the rest of your life.

For $475?

Option (A): Hi-Power clone along with spring and trigger upgrades from Cylinder and Slide would come in around $400. A couple extra mags and you'll be close to your target spendage.

Option (B): Splurge on your existing gear. A good .22 conversions goes for 2.5-3 Benjamins on common platforms and makes training cheap and consistent. Add a nice leather holster, belt, and more ammo to round out your $475.

Just for fun/the hell of it or something a bit more practical? If it's the former, I can help you. I was in this same boat a short while ago and started a poll/thread on it.

I just picked up a Walther P1 that I've been having a lot of fun with:

http://www.southernohiogun.com/images_2/SHG-P1P38.jpg

This is a classic design and it makes for a great conversation piece - the alloy framed P1s are virtually identical to the WW2 vintage P38s and they fire standard over-the-counter 9x19 ammunition (I'd stick to FMJ, though). Considering you can get them in "like new" condition for under $300, I'd say give it a try. :)

Do I remember that you're 16? What are Arizona's laws for when you can buy? (If it's 16, my sons are going to be very unhappy that they were raised in Texas.... :D)

An older Winchester pump .22. Maybe a model 90, 62 or 63. You can pick one up for around $400 for a nice used one, they absolutely the most fun to shoot when it comes to .22 rifles and ammo is cheap.....just my .02

STicking to your calibers/cartridges assumed, and
your stated budget.

CZ 75B 9MM Luger - Semi-Auto
Double Action (DA) first shot
-or- Single Action(SA) with COcked and Locked carry
subsequent shots are SA
Three Dot fixed sights w/full length rib
16 rd mag. capacity - comes with two mags.
35.2 oz. weight empty - Soaks up recoil
Curved backstrap to frame is comforable grip
SHould be able to find one for the budget
Reliable - mine's gone 500 rds = 100% reliable
and very accurate.

Later, when it's in the budget, a Kadet .22 LR Conversion Kit
for $300

Wally EOrld WWB 100 rd Bulk is $19 for economical
range time, JHPs for HD/SD

I'm with Thernlund on this about loving these open ended questions. I also find it very interesting when people completely ignore the parameters you have set and suggest getting something not even made in the caliber(s) you specified.

Anyway, since I don't know what you have I will tell you what I would get and that is a CZ PCR. Unbelievably great ergonomics, at least for me, 9mm for somewhat less expensive ammo, price is right and IMO a really cool looking gun.

I personally have never enjoyed shooting .22's and sold my one and only .22 pistol, a Hi Standard Sport King, some years ago.

Try a calico. They come in 3 out of 4 of those calibers, plus great reliability! and 100rd mags

I agree 100% with what Cajun Bass said. Every collection should include the guns that he mentioned.

For the budget you mention, you could do much worse than a CZ product. My personal preference is for the 75B in .40 S&W

IMO, every collection needs one.

They're accurate
They have great, sexy lines
They can take scopes or red dots without any trouble
It will win your wife over. (My Mk. II Target is my wife's favorite gun)
They're cheap to shoot, even with excellent ammo. (mine likes Winchester HV)

Since you don't seem to yearn for anything particular, I would suggest any .22 LR gun, be it rifle, carbine or handgun. Preferably the latter.
A rimfire handgun + ammo is more likely to be tossed in the shooting bag as a "yeah, why not?" last minute thought than anything else, so would get shot more often.
& in my own experience, a gun you shoot more, you shoot better & enjoy more & shoot more & better &.....
So I think that for sheer volume-of-shooting-fun, a .22 handgun is king.

Well Mr. Sheriff I see you are from Prescott! I just moved to Santa Fe from there and I do miss all those great gun shops in that neck of the woods.

If I had $475 to spend on a gun in Prescott I would head on down to either Bill's Trading Post or Prescott Valley Guns, you'll probably get the most gun for your money at either of those places and PV Guns has a better selection than J&G anyway and usually cheaper. Bill doesn't have a wide selection but he can always get you what you want for the best price in town.

As for a gun to buy with $475.....CZ-75 without question that's what I would get.
