I am stationed at Ft. Wainwright, AK in the army. Can I get a CC permit? Then when I buy a gun I won't have to wait while they call the FBI every time. I am very impatient! Haha. I heard from someone that I cannot but who knows, people lie.

Thanks a lot folks,

Dan

Dan,you can get a Alaska CCW,but this ruling seems to present a problem.
Of course Alaska,as Vermont ,does not require a permit to carry.
YMMV.

See regs for Alaska:

It must be vaguely possible somewhere. Texas allows 18 year olds who are in the service or honorably discharged to get them and there are a few in force per statistics on the texas chl demographics board.
Service people are the only ones exempt from the 21 year old floor.

Can I get a CC permit?
Shouldn't be a problem, as long as you meet all the requirements.

It sounds like your employer might have a problem with carrying concealed though. :(

As was mentioned you can get a permit. As was also mentioned you cannot carry concealed, on or off-post while assigned to USARAK. Get caught with it and you're subject to UCMJ action. In addition if you're living on base there are a bunch of regs about how and where you have to keep the firearm. (basiclly in your company arms room, but check with your command). If all you want to do is skip the waiting period, and have no intention to carry then you should be set. Also, when you transfer, it's possable your new state will have reciprocity with AK, and you'ld be able to carry there.

I remember when that order came out, it was after several soldiers got into a shooting or did something stupid off duty. Like usual in the Army one idiot does something stupid and officers get chewed out so they tighten the rules on the rest of us. The good news is that I remember they specifically left out open carry in the reg and I remember a comment from the CO that if you needed to carry a firearm you could still open carry one. I highly doubt that would be a problem in Alaska. Also in reality this is one of those regs that is impossible to enforce, and if you have a unit with a chain of command that supports their soldiers you shouldn't have a problem unless you do something stupid.

ETA: Yes you can get a CCW while in the military. I have my Georgia GFL even though I don't need one to carry under Georgia law. I wanted the exemption from NICS as well. All you have to do is show your military ID and a copy of your orders proving state residency if you don't want to change your DL over to AK.

I had one when I was stationed in South Dakota back in 92-95, and have had my Wyoming permit since last year.

I got it to be able to carry when off duty, and like you, to bypass the NICS check requirement.

I had a WA CPL when I was stationed in WA with the Navy.If you are there on orders, then that is considered to make you a resident of that state, for most purposes, including guns and CCW.It's possible there may be some law,in some state(s), that says otherwise, but I have never heard about it.
