I just picked up my new 610-3, and it looks great. Haven't had a chance to shoot it, but while I was fiddling with it, I noticed that if I shake the gun, there's a rattling noise coming from inside. Is this normal, and if not, should I take the gun apart to take a look at exactly what is causing the rattling? Thanks for any help.

Perfectly normal.

It's the hammer block.

Look down inside in front of the hammer and you can see it.

well, I already took it apart, and noticed that indeed that piece is causing the rattling. However, now I can't get the cover plate back on! the portion where the middle screw goes, just doesn't want to go down flush with the frame. Any recommendations?

Proceed VERY carefully. Improperly removing and replacing the sideplate is how many revolvers get a burr on the edge of the sideplate and get boogered up screwheads.

This a sure sign that a "kitchen table gunsmith" has been inside the gun - resale price drops accordingly.

Do LOTS of searches on this and other forums to find out how to replace the sideplate without damage.

I'd tell you, but I'm a kitchen table gunsmith myself!

I'm making sure not to get any scratches on the frame, sideplate or use improper screwdrivers for the screws... that's why I'm asking instead of forcing the side plate on through brute strength. :)

Update: Crisis averted, the aforementioned hammer block was placed improperly (since it just sorta floats around in there), once I set it in right, the plate popped right back on. :)

I LOVE a Happy Ending! And you learned a good lesson, too.
