I'm thinking about getting one mainly because I like the AK look and also I don't own an autoloading shotgun yet. I have a few questions about them though. First, are they any good? Second, can you get magazines in excess of 5 rounds for them.
Here's the type of shotguns that I'm talking about:

I've seen them in .410 guage on gunbroker for less than $200.

www.cdnninvestments.com has .410 and 20 gauge models for $159+shipping. I'll probably snag one of the 20ga models as soon as I get out of MD (9 months till college graduation), as the dealers in this state arent real sure if it has to be treated as a normal AK (extra paperwork, waiting period, etc) or not, so they just refuse to deal with them.

Typing "Saiga" into the search feature yielded 7 threads on these, including a pari by fellow Moderator Corriea, who likes his.
5 rounds is typical.
Not sure how good these would be for clays or birds, but there's lots of utility in a reliable though military looking semi auto shotgun.

I know that a conversion can be performed on them similar to what is done with the Saiga rifles. I imagine in 2004 we will see a lot of conversions done. :)

Good review! Thanks. I think I'm going to hold off on this one for another year and maybe congress will do us right.

My wife bought a 20gauge Saiga for use around the farm when the light's go down.
She bought it for the reason of the quick change magazines so she could see which load was available in which magazine.
She has one with 2.75" lead #4 shot 1oz.
The other magazine has 2.75" #3Buckshot.
When having to check-out a distribance at 2300,being 35miles from the nearest town,we have had feral-dogs into our turkey/fowl barn's and other critters after are livestock, the idea of a shotgun with multiple magazines just made good sense!
She bought the Saiga after coming onto four yotes at 0230,trying to take down a foal and her with a Glock 17L in one hand and a Q-beam in the other.
Since then she bought a 410 Saiga and a Vepr(?)7.62X39mm carbine.
Her idea is that buying these are investments:) !
She work's as a RN in town and carry's a Glock 19 as her carry gun.
Now she visit's the gun-shop more than Wal-Mart.
Have seen 9round 410 magazines at AuctionArms.com in the past.

10 rounders are a tad bulky:

I would get one if I could put a pistol grip on it but its just plain ugly with that sporting stock.
