I'm thinking about getting a Walther P99 in 9mm and have only seen ONE. Which Glock is this pistol similar in size and weight to? How does it compare to other concealable guns?

Thanks,
Steve

Agreed, P99 most similar to the 19. Compared to "other concealable guns" the P99 is a fine option. The one attribute of the P99 that I like is the trigger and how well it works & how good it feels. You really have to shoot one to understand ;)

I've thought about getting this gun in the 9mm myself but it's a S&W gun. I hate double action pulls because they're next to impossible for women to use without going into weight training. I noticed this has a TDA which has the single/double action option -- is it an easier trigger pull than the S&W autos?

Mastrogiacomo, if you're referring to the SW99, it's a very different animal to the German-made Walther. I wouldn't believe that you could copy the same design with some minor cosmetic differences and get such a huge difference in fit and feel. If you get a chance to shoot the P99, do so. It's definitely worth the 20-30 dollar difference between the Walther and the S&W version.

I'd say it's a lot closer to the 17 than the 19...

Well, upon inspecting the actual specs, it seems to be right in the middle in terms of length, but everything else is the same. I'd say it feels more like a 17...

I was thinking of this very Walther gun in a 9mm double/single action. I meant that the S&W company bought Walther out and these are produced in Springfield too. This is why I wondered how the trigger would feel -- different or like another of their S&W autos....

The SW99 (Smith and Wesson's version) are produced locally. The P99 is still produced in Germany. The only exception is certain P99's in .40 had the slide (frame?) built in the US. Those models do not have the German proof marks.

The P99 FAQ (http://www.praxagora.com/lunde/WaltherP99FAQ/) has plenty of info about this.

i've only fired one glock, a g19. after handling just about all the different models of glocks at a gun show, i was unimpressed with how it fits in my hand. i then picked up a p99, and was very impressed how comfortable the grips are.

my wish list of 9mm's are:
walther p99 in od green
steyr gb
hk p7m8
(not necessarily in that order)

the p99 is a prettier gun thats for sure. ive only held the p99s....but my sw99 is a fine piece. 0 troubles out of it in 1800+ rounds now. Sometimes long times between cleanings in order of 500+ rounds. I enjoy the gun alot. It shoots very very well as many that have shot it will attest to. I went with the smith cause it was on sale, had night sights, and lifetime warrenty. yea p99 is prettier tho.. I want a p99 in od green 9x19 please....roll markings only no laser etch for me. i still believe either is a great buy.
