First time posting in the Shotgun forum. I was given my first one today by my grandfather. He is 80 years old and doesn't shoot much anymore. This Savage was probably bought around 1960 by my late great-grandfather, who passed it on to my grandfather when he died in '77. This gun has been roughly used as it was a truck gun. My grandfather tells me it has been dropped more than a few times (as evidenced by the chip in the stock near the receiver). I imagine it still has more than a little life left in it though.

Here it is, the heirloom Savage 775A 12ga.

The young lady is my 14 yr old sister.

Welcome to Shotguns,CG.

This is,IIRC, a modernized long recoil Browning patent design. As such it will, with proper care, last several more generations. For the benefit of future shotgunners, take good care of it.

As with all older shotguns, a visit to a decent smith is called for. Browning designs are not user friendly, and it takes a pro to take it apart, clean it and reassemble.

Once that is done, and the rings and springs in the forearm are properly set up, you can shoot with any and all 2 3/4" loads except non toxics. Do so, in your ancestor's memory.

HTH.....

That is a very sweet SG, with a great history. I've always wanted one of those savage autos for the collection.

Nice old savage for sure. Browning left us a wonderful legacy many still enjoy today. That would be a nice gun to tinker and restore carefully. Please don't bubba the gun with any sawing and such.

P.S. My 16 year old son is here looking with me and wants to know more about the sister! Respectfully of course.
