Im looking for a nice 9mm. I have a 9mm but its not up to my standards, Its a Ruger P-94 9mm and Kicks more than my .45! Im looking for something with more barrel length than 4.5" and Hi Accuracy. I really like the Beretta M9 and the Glock 17. Anyone out there have any opinions on both Guns? Ive allways wanted a FN Hi-Power also there is something about the way it feels in my hand. I really like the smoothness of cocking the Berretta though, It feels very clean and like a Excellent peice of Machinery. What Gun would you choose?

4 3/4" CZ SPO1: not quite 5", but low flip, very accurate and reliable.

The Glock 17 is not quite 5", about 4 3/4" They make a long slide verson but the model number escapes me. The Beretta or a 1911 in 9mm are the only ones with 5" barrels that I am aware of.

The Glocks can be more accurate than a lot of people give them credit for but they are a better combat/self defense gun. The Beretta's that I have shot seem to vary. The one I own is a tack driver, but I have shot others that were disapointing.

While the barrel is a little under your 5" requirement Sig makes a very accurate gun in the 226. This is the most consistenty accurate 9mm I have owned.

CZ is a great choice for a range gun. They are heavy to reduce recoil and are usually very accurate. For a variety of reasons I would not use one for self defense however.

CZs are pretty good for self defense.

A few come to mind:

9mm Les Baer, Wilson Combat or any other semi-custom 1911
SIG X5 L1
Glock 34

Just jumping on the pile. But a 5" 9 mm just screams 1911. Some of the semi customs will gladly help you out. You can be on the lookout for a Colt. OR, It seems that RIA is going to come out with a 9mm. While I am not a fan of cast frames. IF they do, I am getting one...

I have owned a 17, and now own a 34, my dad has the Beretta.

I think the Beretta and ghe G34 are just as accurate. The 34 is more accurate than the 17. I have never shot a CZ, but hear they are not quite as accurate as a Beretta by about .5 of an inch. But that has only be reviews I have read where they have put them in ransom rest at 25 yards.

My first pistol was a Glock 17L.

I carry an M9 at work all day and qualify with it.

I would go with a glock. Get a long slide if you can find one 17L or a 34 if you want a Gov't size gun and real accurate range time.

Hands down...CZ75, it's got a 4.7 inch barrel and it won't let you down. I carry 2 almost everyday! :)

Here are my votes:
1. CZ 75B SP-01
2. HK P30
3. Beretta 92FS (M-9)

I own all of them, love all of them, and put the CZ first because of it's value, accuracy, and all steel constuction. You won't go wrong with any of them (HK doesn't have your 5" barrel.)

Glock 17L

or

EAA Witness Elite Match

Very accurate and 100% reliable. The CZ SP-01 has one of the worst stock triggers out there and takes time and money to get it to be acceptable.

To me the Berreta DA/SA triggers feel mushy and that goes for the HKs too.

I have a Glock 17L that'll out shoot just about everything I've run into at the range. I've shot against (my own) SP-01, S&W 952s, Sigs, HKs, etc......
To top it off I have not done anything to it, it's straight out of the box.

If you're looking for accuracy and a "range" target pistol get the 17L or the EAA Match. The S&W 952 would be nice but for $1800 I've not been impressed with what I've seen.
:D

benderx4, no offense, didn't see your post until I finished mine, just my opinion.

I love the Glocks I have for no nonsense defense guns. But if I'd shoot an accuracy match, I'd be doing it with my 92fs.

IMHO Glock makes the best 9mm. 17/19/26/34 you can't go wrong.

I'd ge the Glock 17. if you want the full size barrel get the 34.

The 17L is a target model, it is built for accuracy, and accurate they are!

I had a chance to shoot the 952 at the S&W Academy in Springfield. At 10 yards, it was a simple matter to keep a magazine full in close proximity to the bullseye. I am a reasonable pistol shot; the 952 was flattering.

For old and boring, I'd go with Beretta 92FS (M9, more or less). Mine has done well for me over the last 15 years. Mine has been accurate, reliable and fun to shoot. The G17 is a wonderful weapon, weighs less, but I shoot better with my Beretta at all distances and situations I've tried them both in...

If you're looking for the new kid on the block, take a look at the S&W M&P9 L or M&P9 Pro. They are pretty slick shooting, solid pistols and the Pro has a way sweet trigger! (Plus with that polymer frame, and striker fired system, it is G17-like...only they come with 5 inch barrels.)

(My favorite carry 9mm is still my H&K P7. Just can't beat the accuracy or concealability....I'm a pretty large fella, so its hefty weight doesn't really bother me.)

That would be the G34. Very sweet, but almost impossible to find a new one right now. I wanted one, but my dealer told me that Glock had shifted production to military and law enforcement and was only building a very limited number of G34's. He tried to find me one through his sources and came up empty.

Browning Hi Power is my favorite. Next would be a Springfield XD9 Tactical. I can also highly recommend a CZ75B. Any of the three would fit your needs and all three have "softer" recoil.

Between a Glock and a Beretta, i would recommend the Beretta. Granted they were subcompact models, but ive owned a G19 and G23C before my Beretta. I am far, far more accurate with the Beretta as it just fits my hand better. Beretta also makes a 92 I-Steel which is a target model, but you can buy barrels, springs, compensators and spruce up an old 92 to make it similar to the target models.
