I've got the H&R model 755, and i've got a question. When i got it their was this little bit of felt behind the bolt [i consider the bolt the moving part you pull back to "cock" the gun]. The thing is the bolt doesn't go near the felt, and it fell out about 2 months after i got it. i've had it for about 4 years, and have no problem with it whatsoever. The question is though, is it a problem to not have that?

There is a round disc, made of some kind of fiber, called the "bumper plug insert" in front of the bumper plug. It acts as a buffer for the bolt, and should be there. The bolt should not hit the steel bumper plug as that will batter the bolt after while.

Unlike some semi-autos which are designed to allow the bolt or slide to "bounce" off the steel frame, the 755 bolt is intended to stop in the back position.

Check www.gunpartscorp.com for the part if needed.

Well it doesn't go anywhere near the back, but would it cause problems if i didn't have it?

I am confused. You said this "piece" was behind the bolt, now you say it was nowhere near the back.

That rifle is an odd design. When the rifle is fired, the pressure blows the empty cartridge out of the chamber, forcing the bolt back and cocking the hammer. The empty case is ejected. The bolt continues back until stopped by (normally) that buffer insert and stays back. The operator then loads a fresh round in the chamber and closes the bolt manually; the rifle is then ready to fire again.

The gun will likely work OK without the insert/buffer but I think it will eventually be damaged.

The felt thing that is missing, is along the "path" of the bolt, all the way in the back or the "rail" the bolt travels. the felt is all the way in the back. i meant the bolt doesn't go anywhere near the back.
