I've found a NEW NEF single shot 12 gauge for $85. Is this a fair price? Thanks for any help. -240SX

Around here they go for about $115 so I'd say that is a good price.

Great deal, but be forewarned - that gun is a ferocious kicker unless you stick with lighter loads.

I had one years ago and developed a flinch that was very tough to eliminate.

Great price, but what Bud said is true. Use lighter loads unless you like pain.

I buy them at $119 NIB and I'm happy. $85 is a great deal!

Mine kicked like a mule until I did that. The NEFs/ H&Rs are very light. Very solid and dependable shotguns otherwise. I'd buy it.

I use to think you guys that said this where wimps:rolleyes: but now I think there is a Conspiracy going on the guy selling you shells decides you are over 40 and gives you the hard kicking shells:D:evil::D .LOL untill you get into the 3" slugs and buckshot they don't bother me . H&R made a (one year only) a synthetic stocked 24" barreled 3 1/2" turkey gun weighed 5.25 lbs a friend had one I fired it ONCE with a 3.5 shell:what: decided I don't want a turkey that bad:eek: compared to it a 10 is a pussycat

Wow. I'm glad to see I'm not just weak. I fire my milsurp rifles with no flinch, including the Soviet M44s; however, my little single shot H&R/NEF .410 leaves me with a worse sore shoulder than any of my rifles ever does.

Mine is a Tamer with a synthetic stock, so it's pretty light. It's also the thumbhole style stock with shell storage, so the length of pull is a bit short for my long arms. I may replace the stock with a regular-style synthetic stock. That means giving up the in-stock shell storage, but it's worth it if I can shoulder the weapon better and hopefully reduce the punishment I'm getting from recoil. Other than the fact that it kicks a bit, I've never had a problem with my H&R single shot. Once a shell didn't eject until I rammed it out with a dowel, but I think that was the ammo, not the shotgun. It has never done that to me again, and I've fired several hundred shells since that one.

Great Gun!! I bought mine years ago at a Kmart for $79. I've shot clay, small game and a deer with the thing. Easy to carry, ultra reliable, and accurate. It does kick but common sense practices will minimize the effect.
