So whats a good group?

I'm trying to convince my lady friend that she did fine her first trip out. !st up she put 8 rds of .38 through my taurus at the same area I had already shot at for my first group. 2nd time up she used a friends .40 and put 6 inside 3" and a total of 9 rds with a 6" group before she put it down saying it was "too heavy". One of the more manly men at her work said she would have kept all 9 inside 3" if she was any good.

Like I said, new shooter, female, has never shot any firearms before. I say she did fine, whats your opinion?

Heck, I wish I'd shot that well my first time out! I'd say she's doing just fine - with practice, your groups may be put in the shade! :D

Well, My comment to her heman at work is hes welcome to come shoot against her anytime....She did great. Anytime your a "wirgin" and you can keep it in 6" at 7 yds..youre doing something right. Just keep her shooting and teach her correct technique..her groups should get smaller......

She did just fine.
Try to help her keep the fun in it and she will go from good to gooder.

She did very well for her 1st time out! W/ a little practice, she'll put that manly man in his place! :D

That's certainly good enough for self defense!

Not bad at all first time out with any gun, much less a .40. She'll tighten those groups up for sure with a little practice.

Considering how many people I see at the range who can"t even hit the paper at anything over 5 yards I'd say thats very good for a first timer.

She put her first 9 rounds into a 6" circle her first time out? Sounds damn good to me; certainly good enough that I wouldn't want to end up on the business end of that pistol. I see absolutely no reason to criticize her based on this performance, considering the number of first-timers that I've seen who have trouble putting rounds on paper at that distance with a .22LR pistol.

IMO, for anyone to shoot for the very first time for any caliber, with .38spec and .40SW and keep all rounds inside an 8½X11 sheet of paper at 7 yds is VERY good. Guess how I think your lady friend did.

She's doing very well. There are still a few men who have problems with the idea of women shooting well, but they can be ignored.
