I'm thinking about buying a Puma 92 16" Carbine in .357 Magnum, and I'd like to know how reliable they are with .38 Special cartridges? Thanks.

works alright for me. SWCs are not accurate, though.

I shoot a handload involving a Lee mold, cast 105 SWC in front of 2.3 grains of bullseye. It is 1.5" at 50 yards accurate and effectively mimics .22 in uses. I'd hunt squirrel with it, though all I've ever used it for is plinking. It pushes 900 fps from my 20 inch Rossi 92. It functions reliably. I have to raise my aperture sight for the load, but the sight I have on the gun is click adjustable and very repeatable. Makes for a very versatile rifle.

Mine shoots 38's ok as long as I don't try to cycle it very fast. If you reload you can just seat your bullets shallow or just load light .357's.

I have owned three different Rossi M92 carbines over the years, a .357, a .44 Magnum, and a .44/40

My .357 worked fine with .38 special cartridges, they fed and ejected, however as noted in an earlier post, the accuracy wasn't all too great.

I had better luck with a +P load of 231 Winchester and 158 grain jacketed hollowpoint Remington bulk bullets loaded in .357 Magnum cartridge cases.

Far and away, the .44/40 was the most accurate of the three rifles and the one I probably should have kept, I just hate reloading .44/40 cartridges.
