Finally got the die set and will start decaping about 200 cases. It's for my CZ 527 bolt action carbine. I'm wanting to load for 200 and 300 yds. Target shooting, I'll be using standard Federal Champion small rifle primers and I shopping for some .311 dia bullets. What ever powder I get I'll be doing a workup, probably a little over minimum to max loads and because it's a bolt action rifle I have a few more options than my semi-autos. Would anyone have any suggestions on a pretty good powder to start with??

for bullets 125 gr. and below, 1680 is THEE 7.62x39 powder.

and obtw....it meters well

you can push a 125 gr bullet a tad faster with H335, but 1680 was specifically designed for 7.62 Russian

AA1680 has worked well for me. RL7 will work too if you can't find AA1680.

I have tried AA 1680 extensively, and for most use I actually prefer H4198.

Good replies so far. AA 1680 and R-7 make work well for you in the lighter bullets. I have also found IMR and H 4198 to shoot very well in my Ruger with 110 and 125gr bullets. If you plan on using anything heavier that 125gr give H 322 or N-130 a try, good stuff.

Don't forget to give some .308 bullets a try as well. Many 7.62x39 shooters are having excellent results with .308s.
