How can a guy get a 9mm RIA? Local gun shop said that they aren't importing the 9mm 1911's. He said that HE has wanted one as well.
Is this true?

PS: I saw a Llama 1911 in 9mm for $350 (used). Are they any good?

You can try a .38 Super plus a 9mm Kart EZ Fit barrel kit.

Somebody at RIA or Taurus needs to wake up, with the price of ammo these days American shooters need a value priced 1911 in 9mm!

As much as I like the .45ACP the cost adds up fast when you are just doing recreational shooting.

I ONLY want a RIA in 9mm. May have to break down and buy the 38 Super and convert.

Northslope Nimrod,

I have a RIA converted to 9mm with a Match barrel, Essex slide, Wolf springs, Fusion billet machined parts, etc. that looks like an Ed Brown. Been trying to sell it with the extra 38 Super barrel. It was custom assembled and fitted by Bob Serva (Fusion Arms), entire pistol was matte blued as well. It's on Gunbroker now.

Everyone says they want a 9mm 1911, but not to many are willing to actually buy one.

I am shooting 9mm CZ's now, a much better choice for me personally.

Price is the key, makes little sense to spend $600-800 on a gun who's purpose is to shoot cheap ammo. That's where Kimber and Springfield get it wrong. A 9mm 1911 at the price of the RIA .38Super is what I'm talking about.

I agree with Wally in general.

MOST people would want an inexpensive gun to get "the 1911 experience" shooting cheap low recoil 9mm. I agree that RIA and Taurus have been ignoring the market and missing the boat. If people are willing to rebarrel a cheap gun like a RIA Super, imaging how many will buy one made like they want it to start with.

However, there are those of us who want a nice gun shooting cheap low recoil 9mm for IDPA ESP competition. I have a well tuned Colt for the purpose. I bet Schmecky's parts gun will get some bids but he will take a loss on the package.

There are some who want a great 9mm, very accurate and durable for PPC competition.

I believe Rock Island had a compact 9mm 1911 at the last SHOT Show, slated to come out towards the end of the year.

Wally,
You hit the nail on the head.
I too, would like a 9mm 1911, but am not willing to spend a lot of money. Is anything else required to convert the .38 Super to 9mm besides the barrel? I am thinking of the extractor. Will .38 Super magazines feed the 9mm cartridges, or would one need 9mm magazines?

There are rumors that maybe RIA will have a 9 in September.

I think an RIA 9mm would find a ready market. Certainly I'd get one, especially a Lightweight Commander model. It would be an excellent carry piece for a lot of us, thin, light, 10 rounds.
BTW, I'm no expert on conversions of .38 supers, but I think besides the barrel, you'd need both a new extractor and ejector . Mags look similar. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong. If that's all it takes, that's not much for even us tabletop gunsmiths.

Kind of looks like a CZ with a 1911 slide.

A Llama 1911 pattern 9x19 at $350 is high. I got a commander clone like this in 9x19 for $200 ANIB in 2003. It is very accurate and reliable and clean but it will not feed anything but ball ammo.

I may buy a RIA .38super eventually. Do they not come in other than the pimp version?

Don't know exactly what you're trying to ask. They have a standard, parked version for $379; and a nickeled (tres pimp), Armscor version for $449.

here are rumors that maybe RIA will have a 9 in September.

RIA already has a 9mm for sale in the US, but its not a 1911.

Saw one at the last gun show and it appears to be a rebadged Tanfoglio small frame Witness/BabyEagle, which I think will be a tougher sell given the attractive price of the real CZs and the other clones already out there -- EAA, Baby Eagle, Armalite.

I'd buy a RIA 9mm "Combat Commander" in heartbeat.

Here is a thread on this subject:
http://forum.m1911.org/showthread.php?t=52096

I don't think the RIA Reps posted in that thread to either confirm or deny a 9mm RIA.

ETA: If and when they do come out I'll pick one up.

As some of you have said: RIA in Lightweight Commander would fit the bill nicely.

I've only seen the .38super RIA locally in the pimp version.
