Depending on your location, you might want to give IDPA a try. There are some very good revolver shooters at just about every match you'll find and the stages are usually revolver neutral if not down right revolver friendly.

FM12,
Icore was the first AP match I wandered into. Our club allows autos to shoot as a courtesy. After watching a few matches I jumped right in, got a Randy Lee trigger job on my 686, a bunch of HearthCo moonclips and the other stuff. I have shot and RO'd 2 IRC's since and revolver shooters are the greatest! If there's a group near you get involved! You will have fun. I shoot IDPA, USPSA, Steel Challenge and a local .22 match called Take-5. But
ICORE and Take -5 are really special .
Good luck!

I have been out of competition a couple of years, but did compete in ICORE and started a club in Richmond, CA under the umbrella of the Richmond Hot Shots.

The people in ICORE are a great group of people to spend your time with--supportive, gregarious and just generally good people. The competition is a cross between steel shoots and USPSA with some shooting gallery thrown in. Fast moving and fun. Watch out for the Far and Near Standard, though.

The real icing on the cake is the annual International Revolver Championship (IRC) sponsored by S&W and run by ICORE. This has been hosted by the Hogue (yep, THAT Hogue) range in Morro Bay, CA the last few years.

S&W provides LUSH support for this event. In the last year I competed there were around 25 S&W handguns on the prize bench and, I believe a rifle and shotgun from other supporters. Given around 120 to 130 competitors, you do the math. A lot of guns went home as well as a beautiful safe and Dillon press. A 4" S&W M66 followed me home that year.

There are also usually drawings or awards of two to three PC editions. On my first visit to IRC (as observer and new ICORE member) I won a PC627 V-comp with special production run serial number with $20 worth of raffle tickets. And to think my wife had to talk me in to attending the award ceremony where the drawing took place!

My entrance fee was waived two years at the IRC by volunteering to RO. The ROs also receive "thank you" gifts or chances at raffles and a chance to watch the best of the best up close and personal.

By the way, that Far and Near Standard is run every year. This stage has six targets in one row of three above another row of three. It starts at 50 yds standing and going prone on signal (or facing away and turn around if physically unable to go prone) with 6 shots in 9 seconds; 25 yard standing 6 shots in 7 seconds; 10 yards 6 shots-reload-6 shots in 10 seconds; 3 yards 6 rounds weak hand, reload and six rounds strong hand in 10 seconds.

At some matches Hogue has offered up to $1000 to anyone that can come in with all Xs in the Far and Near Standard. Not even Jerry Miculek or Vic Pickett have taken it last I heard.

Almost forgot to mention that they have a large number of categories and special categories with attendant plaques or prizes.

Thanks, Guy. Very interesting and compelling. I may very well see about starting a club.

At the last IRC there were 220 ish shooters and about 50 ish guns given away. The MD made a good effort to get ahold of a varying range of firearms. There were the usual 625, 627, some Sigmas, some M&P's, a few rimfire rifles, a couple shotguns and various other items. I finished well enough to win a gun but since I have already won 2 others in previous years, I wanted someone else to have a chance at one and opted for a C-more certificate. I actually did worse this year shooting a 627 (in years past I competed with a 610) placing about 10 down from last year at about 62nd (last year I was about 52nd). It was a really fun match and it has grown by leaps and bounds over when Guy was going.

It is THE revolver match to shoot. It's pretty interesting seeing some of the top USPSA shooters get their hands on a wheel gun. Jerry is awesome as usual, but it's pretty fun watching Taran Butler with a wheel gun.. He's still fast but it's a whole different skill set. I had the pleasure of shooting with Guy on occasion.
