VV N-110 in .357 mag

The Hornady Manual says that they get "less flash and blast" with VV N-110 when loaded in .357 mag. They were using an 8" barrel, but I have a 4" Model 19. I like flash and blast as much as the next guy, but I don't need to get a tan every time I pull the trigger.
Anybody using VV N-110? Like it? Hate it? Would I be better off with something else?
I was thinking of trying this powder, but I'd hate to get a pound of it, use a few hundred grains, and figure out it doesn't work very well.
I'm planning on working up to max loads behind JHPs for defense rounds, but i haven't decided what weight bullets yet.
Thanks.
-J.

Alliant 2400 is used a lot to load the 357 magnum, data will tell you to use a magnum primer. Some will say use a faster burning powder for a short barrel, but it makes no difference using a 4" . http://www.vihtavuori-lapua.com/pdfs/Burning-Rate-Chart.pdf PDF file, burning rate of powder, 2400 look a little faster than N110

You bad eyed pop gunner. You need N-105 powder.
I like N-110 and N-120 for my normal barreled DW 8" super mag .357.

The VV manual downloadable from the Lapua site has N110 recipies for bullets ranigning from 110 grains to 200 grains.
I use VV powders quite a bit. Its a nice clean burning powder.. although I have not used N110 as yet.

I picked up a pound of N110 last month. For now I have used it in a TC 10" single shot 357. Using the Hornady 180XTP it delivered the best accuracy I ever achiveved with that particular bullet and almost my best grouping ever regardless of bullet weight.
I have some more loaded with the 158XTP and will give them a try soon. I will eventually test N110 357 loads in my 6" 686 too. Will be interesting to see how the accuracy compares to 296/H110 as well as the muzzle blast.

In my 4" Python and and 6" M28 357s with Hornady 158 XTPs, VV N110 gives equivalent velocity with better consistency and noticeably less flash and blast than H110/W296.
N110 can also be backed down to moderate loads if you don't always want to run your guns at full throttle.
Follow the VV data and work your way up !
I plan to compare it to 2400 when I have time to make test loads.
But first, I want to work up N110 for my 41s. :-)
Have fun and be safe.

In 357 it burns MUCH cleaner than 2400 for sure. Very low flash and blast overall. I've found it's accuracy and consistency to be top notch in 357, 41, and 44 mag. Also limited use in heavy 45 colt stuff.
Its one major drawback? COST. It's darn near double anything else.(At least around my neck of the woods)
