Our newly appointed Sheriff is, by all indications, going to institute a more restrictive CCW policy. As we gear up for a fight in this post-Heller environment, we could use A LOT of recommends on an Pro 2A column published today in the Orange County Register.

I read a post on calccw recently that seemed to indicate all was not lost with the new sheriff.

We were hopeful. But it seems she may have been 'playing nice' just to get past the Board of Supervisors. Heller certainly helps in the long run, but we are fighting a more restrictive CCW policy now. She will likely revoke or not renew 50% of the CCWs now out in Orange County, leaving only Judges, Attorneys, Doctors, and special people with the ability to defend themselves.

Hutchens noted that before her appointment as sheriff, when she was a retired Los Angeles County law enforcement officer living in Dana Point, she had a legal right to carry a concealed weapon. But she added, "Did I carry a gun everywhere I went? No. I feel pretty safe in Orange County."

She may have to run for reelection some day. What did you expect her to say?

"This pace is a real hell hole of a county with criminals on every corner and I'm damn proud to be your sheriff".

Sure she knows the reality of what goes on, but she's not going to call the county she polices a dangerous place.

Seriously though, strictly speaking, she didn't have to say anything about a county being dangerous or not. It's a statement that's indicative of her POV on this issue. It makes about as much sense as saying, "Orange County feeels safe, so our officers don't really need to wear their body armor."

I did recommend the article. Hopefully it'll get noticed.

The new sheriff doesn't sound terribly impressive, although it's by no means certain that the other candidate (like the ex-chief from Santa Ana PD) would have been any better on this score. I don't expect you to be able to get much traction, since it's really up to the sheriff's discretion and Heller doesn't really touch on concealed carry.

But her appointment will only run for two years, and then she'll have to run for election. Maybe you'll have your chance then.

Wouldn't it be proper to say she will run for election, since she was appointed the first time? You have to be elected once already before you can run for re-election.:neener:
