Alumagrips, what do you think?

Alumagrips, what do you think? Do they look good in person? Do they hold up well? Especially the finish?
I need slim line grips for my Colt’s LW Officer’s ACP. I’m afraid that wood will be too fragile where it gets so thin under the grip screw.

They're very nice in person, and don't feel metalic to the touch. They seemed tough, but I've only seen new ones.
You got to figure they would hold up about as well as the outside of an alloy framed pistol, eh?

I've never handled any, but they sure look sharp. I really wish they would make grips for the BHP. I'd have some in a heartbeat.

I really like them. They are solid, so they are about a durable as the frame. I've only had these on for about 1000 rounds, but the anodizing looks like new.

I heard and read reviews about them at 1911.org, but wanted to hear what you all thought. I was mainly concerned with the durability of the anodized finish since I carry this gun a lot. I think I'm gonna order the Grey ones for my matte black O-ACP - I like a contrast.

I got a pair of 'em and they are now my favorite 1911 grips. Feels like its part of the gun and they're very smooth but grip well. You can even customize a logo or illustration on them

Very cool! I think I'd like a pair of those checkered slim lines myself.

Like any carry gun, you can't invest too much emotion in the finish. If you don't want to scuff up nice grips, don't use nice grips. They make plastic for a reason.

I've almost been kicked off the other forum for bragging on AlumaGrips so much! They are on all my carry guns, and I use them hard! I've never found a more durable grip, and they look and feel great too. The "purchase" in your hand is tremendous, yet they do not hang up on concealment garments like many tacky (in more ways than one) rubber grips do. Plus, when you call you get to talk to Chris, the designer, manufacturer, and janitor!

I don't know how I screwed that up! That's my Kobra Carry with black checkered AlumaGrips, but I wanted to show my Wilson with Olive Gray (my favorite color for stainless) panels. Now it won't let me show that image. Oh well, here's a poor quality shot of a Kimber (that I carried for years) with the gray ones.

I got 'em. They look and feel great.
I really like the feel of the slim grip, with the long trigger for a carry piece. It is unfortunate though that the spring tube is now left exposed. I'll really have to keep an eye on it to make sure its not comming loose.

Yeah, they look kinda cool. I wonder how well they perform...is there any downside to them?

I haven't found one drawback yet. The only damage mine have ever sustained was when I fell against the corner of a block wall right against the outside panel. It had a scrape through the anodizing, but the aluminum was hard enough to avoid serious injury. A black Sharpie marker did the repair! It was hit hard enough to ruin a wood product. I'm in Arizona and was originally concerned about heat retention. Hard to believe, but it isn't an issue!

I have 2 of the cammoed sets on my DW Razorbacks. One set is the solid type the other is the lightweight type. They feel great and they look great.
Im not sure how they will hold up to scratchs and all, I wear mine daily and they have been fine so far. I would highly recommend them to anyone.

I have the smooth ULTRA thin ones on my Springfield Micro. I love them. Great for carry and nice in the hand. Excellent finish and durrability.
If you plan on going with the ultra thin ones, plan on filling down the grip screw bushings a bit to accomodate the thinner profile.

I got a set with the Gunsite logo on them. I do have one problem with them. My grip screws are slightly too long for them and stick up a very tiny bit. It is hard to even notice, but it may have caused problem #2 which is: if I fire more than a couple hundred rounds, the screws come loose. This isn't a big issue to me and I haven't done anything about it yet. I am lazy, but will probably eventually get around to it.

I have a set. I love them!

Durable, excellent grip, and they match the finish on my Kimber very well.
I'll take them any day over stock rubber grips.

Something I hadn't thought about yet is the coating or anodizing. I like the idea of having a set of grips that I can have lazer customized. But How thick is the coating? I mean with light use how long can I expect the coating to hold up.
Has anyone ever had their grips re-coated to match the gun and what were the results?

Earlier in this thread I posted a shot of a Kimber compact that was carried daily, and I'm not easy on my guns. Absolutely no problems at all. Here are black ones on my Kobra Carry. Wonderful!

444,
I ordered these screws from brownells, they heads are lower profile and they fit flush to below the slim-line grip surface. I still had to file the ends a litttle bit though because they imtruded into the magazine well too much.

To each his own.
To me there is nothing like the FEEL of nice wood. It lives, or did anyways.

My full size SA has a pair of Alumagrips and I like em. The only grip I'd consider as a replacement would be Rob Simonich's Gunner Grips, which I have on my smaller SA.

They sure look nice, but I'll stay with wood or rubber Pachmayrs. My fingers are generally cold and in cold weather, forget it.

AZ Husker and I are both supporters of AlumaGrips for much the same reasons. The grips resist wear, are excellent in both hot and cold termperatures and look simply great.
I have replaced the exotic wood grips on all of my 1911's with initialed AlumaGrips or with the eagles. They presently adorn commander and government sized pistols as well as my Ed Brown Bobtail Class A Limited.
I think so highly of this product that I have given sets to friends who cherish their fine handguns and want the very best gripping they can get.
Lastly, I have found AlumaGrips actually improve my grip because of the precision of the checkering Chris has produced in his product.
IMO, anyone who wants the best in handgun grips should opt for AlumaGrips.

Love the looks of good wood but I'm always worried about dinging it up.

I had a pair of Alumagrips (and grip screws) Bear Coated to match my gun. They've held up extremely well.

How much does a pair of thin Alumagrips for a full-sized frame weigh? Same question for standard-thickness grips. Thanks.

On my digital scale (0.1 oz only) two different full-size solid heavy-duty panels each weighed 1.5 oz. I don't have any thin grips, but Chris also offers a lightweight version (hollowed inside) that weighed 0.8 oz. Don't know how accurate it is. Call Chris, he can tell you. Maybe he has new products since last time we talked.
