Has anyone here bought one of these? http://www.novaksights.com/NEW%20products.htm

I recently acquired a used SA loaded 1911 (couldn't pass it up) that shoots a little low using a 6 o'clock hold. It looks like a decent sight, seems to have the exact same profile as a standard novak rear. Thanks for any replies!

Here's the one on mine:

Novak's "Xtreme Duty" adj rear sight works great. I discussed its use on my Delta here:

HTH. :)

Danger, Will Robinson... er, Meathammer.

The Novak adjustable sight does NOT have the same exact same profile as a Novak fixed low mount, and is not a drop in replacement on your SA Loaded.

Look at the picture, the sight base extends forward of the dovetail to make room for the pivot pin. There is a flat cut in front of the dovetail that is not there for the fixed. It will take one pass with a milling machine or a good deal of very, very careful filing.

SA offers an adjustable sight (made by LPA) that will fit your dovetail and will require no milling. The quality isn't as good as a Novak but it works. I think they are $50 from SA. They were offered on the SA loaded coupon last year for about $30.

IIRC, Novak will also mill the slide and install the extreme adjustable for you for a reasonable charge.

Jim Watson,

I thought it was a drop in replacement. The website says the sight requires no milling on a Kimber, Para, etc. I was assuming it was a replacement for any Novak cut slide? Hmmmm. I think I'll send them an email.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

Kruzr,

I have another SA 1911 that I installed their adjustable sight in. It works pretty good. I was just seeing what other adjustable sights were available.

Thanks.

My email sent to Novak:

Hello,

I have a Springfield Armory Custom Loaded 1911 with a standard Novak rear sight. Will my pistol require any milling and/or modification for your Extreme Duty Adjustable Lomount rear sight or is it basically a drop in part?

Thanks for your help.

Their reply:

Yes, it will require a small mill cut in front of the existing dovetail to make room for the hinging system.

Sorry for doubting you Jim. :( I guess I just wanted to here it straight from them. They should really post that need for modification on their website.

Again THR proves to be the best source for information! Thanks much guys!

What are some other options other than the SA adjustable sight? Any?
