I have an older 22/32 Smith that all of a sudden has taken to hanging up after one or two rounds have been expended. I must than open and close the cylinder then continue to cycle the cylinder. It then skips a live round, goes around again and this time it fires.
Any suggestions or clues?

Not sure I understand. Is your problem that the cylinder is difficult to turn (rotate), or that cartridges are failing to fire? Or both?

Have you cleaned the face of the cylinder lately? The barrel to cylinder gap on most .22 caliber S&W revolvers seems to be set fairly tight. The lead and powder fouling that accumulates on the front of the cylinder will cause the cylinder to bind on the breech of the barrel.
Hold the gun up to a light source(make sure it's empty) and look through the barrel to cylinder gap while cocking the hammer. If you can't see a gap, you need to do some cleaning.
