Looking at inexpensive rifle bench rests for non-competition use.

Caldwell's "The Rock" seems to fit the price and intended use bill.

I notice the Caldwell brand bags are black leather rather than the tan suede that Hoppes and some other brands use.

Any experience with Caldwell bags (or rest)??

Any reason to prefer suede or the black leather?

Thanks

Not familiar with the model names, but the metal Caldwell-Midway is ok for the price. It must be, we have had two club property rests stolen from the locker at the range. The plastic rest is near worthless. You might have to put some talcum powder on a leather bag so the gunstock doesn't grab. Depends on the finish of leather and stock.
