It looks like SUVs are going to be the next big agenda item for those who want to take away our rights.
These soon-to-be SUV grabbers don't want us to realize that big heavy SUVs are much safer to drive than small cars.
NHTSB statistics base vehicle safety on a vehicle crashing into a brick wall at 40 mph -- so new, mid-sized cars with tons of airbags test well. In the real world, accidents involve vehicles of different mass, speed and point of impact.
When I look for cars to transport my family, I look at the actual insurance injury claims of vehicles:
http://www.hwysafety.org/vehicle_ratings/ictl/ictl.htm
Injury claims for select vehicles:
Buick LeSabre (the safest 2wd car) 43/100 - 57% Better than average
Volvo V70 XC 4wd Wagon 42/100 - 58% Better than average
Honda Accord 123/100 - 23% Worse than average
Mitsubishi Elipse 224/100 - 124% Worse than average
GMC Yukon XL (Suburban) - 24/100 76% Better than average
These bliss ninnies want to apply CAFE standards to SUVs and trucks. CAFE standards force American vehicle manufacturers to make lighter cars. Lighter cars cause more deaths.
CAFE regulations have killed 2000-4000 Americans per year. (http://216.156.132.11/legal.html)
When "environmentalists" stop drinking bottled water imported from France (how much oil does that cost to transport?), spend as much money on nature conservency as hunters and actually invent and market something themselves, I might have a little respect for them. I will not, however give up my option to drive a big, safe SUV just as I will not give up my guns.
