I just picked up a used Manhurin PPK/S today. I want to replace the recoil spring. Do I need the Recoil Spring, Old Style Long (http://www.e-gunparts.com/product.asp?chrProductSKU=722970), or Recoil Spring, Short (http://www.e-gunparts.com/product.asp?chrProductSKU=722980A)?

Thanks,

John

That is a darn good question.

I was unaware there had ever been any difference or changes in the PPK/s until S&W got ahold of it.

Wonder if, since the PPK/s is really a PP frame with a PPK slide, the change was really on the PPK frame at some point, and not the PP/PPK/s?

I note that Gun-Parts only shows one style spring for the PP, and both "old style Long, and Short for the PPK and PPK/s. Using the same drawing for both.
And the PPK drawing is wrong because it shows the PPK/s two piece grips & solid frame backstrap instead of the open frame & wrap-around grip of the PPK.

But the PPK/s is really a PP frame!

I kind of feel Gun-parts got their PPK's and PPK/s's mixed up maybe?

Huh. Anyone else know anything about this?

Hey!

I'm "someone", even if I wasn't any help! :(

I did notice that Wolff makes no distinction of different length PPK/s springs.

I'm very sorry. You are indeed someone, and I value what you have to say. My previous post has been modified accordingly.

Aside from the exact replacement, what is the reason for it? The spring should not be too weak; on the contrary, the PPK/s .380 pistols usually have too strong a spring, causing failures to feed, at least with U.S. ammo.

Well, I picked up the PPK/S in a trade. The previous owner had said it had some malfs, which he assumed to be mag related. The gunsmith at my FFL's said that there was a "dark spot" on the spring. I figured I might as well replace it- though of course I also plan on trying at least another mag and various ammo, to see if I can duplicate or avoid the previous problems.
