Maybe Californy should outlaw movies that use guns, too. Then what would Arnie Do? Has anybody asked him what Gun Show Loop Hole he's talking about? Maybe he is just parroting something he heard Hilariously say.(??) New York and Californy. Continents away, politically parallel.

Five minutes from now:

"Arnold withdraws his candidacy"

Thats my prediction.

The guy may not be a moron in his field (Hollywood) but after watching him for the past few weeks he should just keep his mouth closed and go back to terminating. I'm sure he is a nice guy, but I don't think he is what California needs right now. And to think I was excited when he made the announcement.

It’s standard Hollyweird hypocrisy gang - the land of make believe where it’s OK to make millions off guns in the movies, but heaven forbid normal folk should want one.

It’s standard Hollyweird hypocrisy gang - the land of make believe where it’s OK to make millions off guns in the movies, but heaven forbid normal folk should want one. Hollywood hypocrisy? Methinks your view is a bit too narrow. Political hypocrisy more like it. After all, actors may play make-believe with guns in movies in TV, but they don't have heavily armed brute squads standing ready to enforce their edicts.

Poor ol' silly me. I thought maybe, just maybe, Hollyweird produced one celeb whothought it was ok for the great ticket purchasing unwashed to use firearms and own firearms, etc.

Ahnuld just assumed a position standing right next to Danny Glover in the Gallery of Bald-Faced Hypocrits. Its ok for me to make a gazillion bucks off the entertainment value of firearms and their use, but it not ok for you ticket purchases to use guns.

Justin,

I agree the bigger picture is indeed the political hypocrisy. Just seems more rampant in that clique than others.

Don’t quite understand the heavily armed brute squads part. Where did that come from?

I don't live in California, and wouldn't, but this seriously ticks me off. I would bet money that Arnold owns guns, and most likely has a carry permit.

The "gunshow loophole" has been closed in CA for some time. Good research on the issues there Arnold....

PS -- I can't find any data that show closing "the loophole" has had any positive effect.

Is anyone surpised that he's a liberal in conservative's skin?

The election of this man as a "Republican" candidate will water down the more conservative side of the two more popular parties. Wrong direction.

I hope the recall fails. The voters deserve the candidate they voted into office.

There are several. Kurt Russel springs to mind.

Then there's this other guy, maybe you've heard of him: Charlton Heston?

Of course, most actors have crap for brains, but there are a few that can complete a coherent thought.

Yeah, I listened to the entire interview live on the Sean Hannity Show, and although he is anti-gun, at least he has the balls to admit it.

That said TM, If I were a Californicator, I wouldn't vote for him just for that.

Sure is sad that all of these people who make lots of money shooting guns on film vocalize against them and even support gun confiscation.

Dont forget Tom Selleck.

I too had hope for California. Hopefully, enough republicans can band together and vote a Libertarian in to office. (To quote Mike Meyers) Shaa right, and monkeys might fly out of my butt too.

Dont feel too bad, I find more California residents (the bad annoying ones) moving to my area all the time. I hate it. I hereby announce the Kick California Into the Pacific Program. All conservatives shall be served notice to vacate the premises by Oct. 1.

As a native-born Californian, I've watched my state grow steadily worse over the years in some respects: overcrowded, overpriced, overdeveloped, but, oh, is every other state PERFECT? I'm just a little tired of hearing and reading of California being the scapegoat of the U.S.A.:
is your state perfect?

Let's not forget some of the folks who lived in my neighborhood(Brentwood) circa 1950's & 60's: John Wayne, Charleton Heston, Ronald Regan, James Arness and the rest of the gun-SUPPORTING actors of that era. Unfortunately, most are passed away, but a fair share of Military Veterans hailed from the Golden State. Thanks for the memories

Ya, well, the Davis sleaze research machine is in full boil mode. The first dribble:

http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/arnoldoui1.html

NOT HIGH ROAD MATERIAL, THAT. Art's Granny would need a defibrillator! However, it IS critical enough to California politics that it needs to be here, because this is what the rest of the attacks against Ahnuld are going to look like.

There's probably worse to come (possibly sexual harassment details).

If Davis knocks Ahnuld out, and McClintock is taken seriously, we may have a good situation out of all this.

A worst case scenario is Davis survives. Better by far: Busta wins it. That's looking likely and even that would be worth doing the recall for.

What about McClintock? Is he real? Is he a an able candidate?

If so, what would it take, in support, to push him up front?

Somehow, I believe A. S. will fizzle. But with the vote split so many ways, he might still stumble into the mansion. If McC is (let's say) The Man, what does it take to position him to take advantage of the fizzle?

I'm not in CA, but I can make noise.

There's only one thing "great" about "Busta": he's not Gray Davis!

Look, by successfully booting Davis out of office, we put ALL these clowns on notice. That alone is worth the price of admission.

However, there's a risk: by doing this recall, we have SEVERELY pissed off Davis. By "we", I mean Republicans and pro-freedom folks of all types, ESPECIALLY gunnies. At this point, if we don't bump Davis, we're screwed. So even if all the Republicans crash'n'burn, replacing Davis with Busta "sends a message". We're no worse off and in many ways, we're better off simply because we got the message across.

That said, there IS one good thing I can say about Busta: he doesn't like Davis. So once in office, he'd be able to at least partially follow the McClintock gameplan, and call for a re-think on those 40+ billion worth of energy contracts that were created under a gross conflict of interest by Davis and company (who was hiring key energy industry figures as consultants).

Quartus
August 27, 2003, 10:57 PM
Agreed that knocking off Davis is the most important thing. That said, Busta is no picnic. He's CERTAINLY no friend of liberty.

Tom is The Real Deal. He's one of those oddballs that actually says what he means, and (WOW!) supports the Constitution. He's what a Republican SHOULD be.

Is anyone surpised that he's a liberal in conservative's skin?

Follow the comments on this board. Apparently there are a lot of gun owners who just assume that someone who plays a good guy shooting up bad guys MUST be one of us.

I had hopes for Ahnuld, but no delusions.
As usual Jim's right.
The least this can accomplish is to let "them" know there are limits to what voters will tolerate.
I think I'd rather see McClintock win, but he needs a lot of backing for that to happen.
So far he has pretty good numbers for very little cash outlay. They could be better, but he dosen't have the fortune to spend that the terminator does.

I wonder if Arnold even knows what the Assault Weapons Ban covers. He probably thinks it bans machineguns, like the other 98% if the masses.

rick_reno
August 28, 2003, 09:56 AM
Given Kalifornian's have continually elected people to both Federal and State govt. that support both the assault weapon ban and the Brady bill, I'd have to assume he's right in line with what appears to be the majority of the state.

Busta, otherwise known as the "Burrito in a suit" is the same as "Red" Davis Don't kid yourself, put some platform shoes on that little creep and he'd be "Red" Davis. He's got this one in the bag, thanks to some selfish Republicans who would rather have their epitath read "I ran for Governor" than help the party maintain control of the White House. It's a sad situation.

You folks who think that you're going to elect a pro-gun governor in Kalif. must be on better medication than the rest of us. It ain't going to happen there - never, ever. Give it up and move on.

The importance of this election won't be felt until next years Presidential run. If the Republicans (even if in name only) could take Kalif. it would help Bush's chances to get another four years, and he's going to need all the help he can get.

BenW

Busta, otherwise known as the "Burrito in a suit" is the same as "Red" Davis
Personally I think he's worse -- much worse. His entire "tough love for California" platform is based on his belief that working Californians are to blame for our mess and don't pay enough taxes to support all our social programs. His proposed tax hikes are double what his proposed cuts to state spending are. He wants to institute an 11% state tax "for the rich" which from what I have read is based on incomes greater than $38K. That ain't rich in California.

Though McClintock is by far my favored candidate, I'm going to be a pessimist and say I see no hope of him winning because of all this other hoopla. If it's between Arnold and Bustamante, I would almost rather see Bustamante win despite the damage it will do to California, simply because at this point it seems like a political nuclear explosion is the only thing that will wake up voters in this state.

1.On The Hollywood Mind: Maybe they're right; anyone dumb enough to pay money to watch most of what they produce really IS too dumb to be trusted with scissors, let alone firearms.

2. What to do about California: Arthur C. Clarke wrote (or had his junior author write) a novel a few years back in which the bad guys drilled a bunch of very deep holes in just the right places on Kali's fault lines with the intention of detonating nukes in them. Hmmm...

If it's not clear yet, California's GOP is split between the RINOs and the real deal. Genuine, principled conservatives are in the minority, led by McClintock and Ray Haynes. I can't say enough good things about either of those two, they're among the finest politicians America has today, in any office.

Ahnuld is supported by the "RINO set", people like Riorden.

Bill Simon could never decide which sort of Republican he is .

So no, McClintock isn't going to back down any time soon.

The question now is, can Davis sink Ahnuld fast enough for his support to switch over to McClintock?

Wow!. That's a mouthful. Like saying Jeffry Dahmer was the finest arms dealer in America. Like Ho Chi Minh was the finest dictator in all of South East Asia. Like Adolf Hitler was the greatest Zero Population Growth administrator of all time. Politicians and great in the same sentence?? Maybe I am just bit cynical. ya think?

Well, last time around, even though I felt Bill Jones was the better candidate, I voted for Simon because I thought he had the better chance of beating Davis. This time around, even if Arnold is the better hope for getting rid of the Davis machine, I'm voting for the person I feel is best for the state -- McClintock. Even if it's argued that I'm throwing my vote away, I think it's better to go down with an honorable ship than support any of the alternatives.

That was Alistair McLean, not Arthur C. Clarke.

It was called Goodbye, California
