Is thirty inches considered a good length for a skeet barrel, or is it too long? ( in a semi- auto) What length barrel do you recommend? Thank you.

The trend used to be toward 25-26in barrels in skeet but lately with the advent of sporting clays people have found that they like longer barrels for shooting targets. A short barrel was considered handy in the field and as most shooters were bird hunters first and skeet shooters second thats how the trend went. I ahve found that the longer barrels give better consistancy on the leads of skeet targets. I personaly shoot a 30in barrel on my 11-87 most of the time which looks really lonnnng on an auto. My O/U I use 30" barrels also. The advantage of longer barrels gives added weight to the front of the gun producing a good follow through on the targets. Many skeet shooters will clamp a 6-10 oz weight to the barrel for this same reason. Any barrel length is OK as long as your comfortable with it. Iv'e seen quite a few 32" guns out there on the skeet range. :)

I shoot 30" O/U for skeet because I don't have a 32" O/U. I shoot a 28" auto because I don't have a 30" barrel for it. Shoot the longest barrel you can swing, you will appreciate the length as your skill progresses.
Barrel length is the last thing you need to worry about with skeet. Tell the old timers to be quiet about your barrel being too long, and learn to shoot.

I thought a 32" o/u would be too long at skeet until I tried it. Works just fine at all the stations.

I have 28" barrels on my Huglu with extended tubes. Not many out shoot me although I do get humbled once in a while. ;)
