Try a lens tissue, an alcohol-impregnated paper towelette used for cleaning eyeglasses or camera lenses.

thanks! I will have to run out to wally world or a pharmacy when I dry off.

I was worried about the coatings on the glass but what you say makes sense. I was just too in shock that I did something so bone headed to see.

I hate to use alcohol but at least it is a polar solvent and probably much safer then the noN poLAR SOLVENT ACTING ON THE LENSE RIGHT NOW! yIKES GOTTA GO GET SOME WIPES.

be back soon

Eyeglasses, camera lenses and other optical devices have much the same kinds of coatings on them as your scope lens. :)

its a Nikon Monarch. Truly a great device. I would highly reccomend them to anyone not wanting to spend a mint on optics. When I bought it I had the burris, the luepold and the nikon side by side. Went with the nikon. buddy bought the burris. I think the burris may have captured a pinch more light but the controls were better and the image crisper on the nikon. They capture light like a black hole. I used to have nikon lenses in my eyeglasses but my doc does not carry them anymore. They were the best.

Thanks lone haranger! The wipes worked perfectly. I had to use about 20 of em. Makes me believe in the quality of the birchwood casey protective wipes. That stuff really seems to last. I have used them for years but never had to remove it from glass. Funny thing was looking through the scope you could not see the oil. Looking at the scope you could.

Thanks again and now for 3 dollars I have a lifetime supply of lense wipes. :)

Rubbing alcohol or denatured alcohol are all you need.

yep that is what is on the wipes. the wipes are nice because they come out clean. not like applying alcohol to an old lense cloth.

I bought a variety of lense cleaning products and they basically all contained alcohol and cost next to nothing. I have alcohol around the house but it is about 70 % pure. In the olden days it was a little easier to find 98% pure.

It all makes perfect sense to me know but last night I was just so pissed at myself to see straight.
