An interesting find...

Indeed it has been a while since I have been on this site. Been too busy with work and play.

In an attempt to get my gf into shooting long guns, I decided to hunt down a small caliber rifle. I was looking for a pistol cartridge lever action or bolt action. I saw this gun and mistook it from a distance as a larger caliber gun, but nope it is an interesting pawn shop find.81299 The gun is a 22lr savage mark II. This gun is nice and heavy. The scope is the odd thing to me. It is a BSA 8-32X40. I have a similar scope on a high power rifle. I haven't had time off yet to field test it for accuracy. I did check the action out and test fired it to make sure that the pin and bolt seated correctly but just haven't set up and seen how accurate it really is. I believe the scope is kinda overkill for the gun but I never had a 22lr with a scope and this one doesn't have irons. I'll post a field report in a few weeks.

Looks like fun. enjoy. I love my scoped .22. Yeah it may be over kill, but who cares.

Look at it this way, the scope may be a little overkill for a .22lr, but you can use it to see the look in the squirrel's eyes right before you put his lights out.....:D

Heck, if the price was good, you can always just put a different scope i=on it, and use that one for something else you may have that can take better advantage of it, or sell it to fun the different scope and maybe some ammo.

It does look pretty cool though. Give it a try and see what happens. You may find out why the last owner put that scope on it.

I was talking to my folks during our weekly get together for breakfast. Their reply in unison was " Is the scope to see the whites of the varmint right before you shoot him in butt??!!?"

Thought about swapping out the scope with another one I have, but that requires time and I haven't even had the chance to go to the range yet. Found out it will be over 2 weeks before I get to go to range.

I had one of those Savage Mark IIs and it was a great gun and very accurate. I've been thinking of picking up another so my girlfriend will have a rifle to use. Around $115 at Wal-mart last time I checked...
