Night Sights Question

I am wanting to get a set of tritium sights for my carry xd-40. I did some digging around at midwayusa & gilberts guns. It seems that I can get either Trijicons, Meprolights, heinie straight 8's or Truglo TFO's for about the same money. Seems like too many good options so I thought I'd come here & ask those of you who have had experience which you prefer & why.

I put a Trijicon front sight on my SIG P229 and I love it. I like Tritium only on the front sight because that's where ones eyes should be focused anyway. I may eventually try something like the Heinie with a single Tritium dot on the rear. I'm generally not a big fan of 3-dot sights, though.

It's really personal taste when it comes to choosing between various, different Tritium sights and configurations.

I have very little actual experience with Truglo, but it seems that the fiber optic sights tend to break after a few hundred rounds. YMMV

I've used both Trijicons and Meprolights, and I prefer the Mepro's. They have (had anyway, its been awhile since I've had Trijicons) bigger vials and a white outline around them, making them easier to pick up in daylight.

I've always prefered the three dots over anything else, as thats what I'm accustomed to. I like the all green set up the best, as they are the brightest, but some seem to have issues with the dots all being the same color. Personally, I think its a non issue, but hey, whatever floats your boat.

Havent used the Truglo's and while they look like a good idea, they always looked bulky and fragile to me. Maybe if they got them down to a more reasonable size.

Truglo TFO's are good, and aren't fragile at all (in terms of getting broken banging around). I had them on my duty gun and didn't have any issues.

The one problem with TFO's is that the front sight fiber shoots lose around 3-4K rounds. I had the one on my weapon replaced 3 times before I decided to go to something else.

Out of the XS Big Dots, Trijicons, Meprolights, and Ameriglows I've since used on several different pistols, I'm going back to TFO's for my duty weapon. Yeah it's a pain, but it's worth it. Probably the best sights out there right now, except for that one issue. If you don't want to have to worry about that Trijicons would be my recommendation.

i like and prefer the xs 24/7 night sights but that isn't one of your options, but from your list i prefer the trijicon night sights, i like the three dot set up and the trijicons are my pick. i have a set on my xd service model.

I've been really happy with the TFOs on my XD9SC. Considering I shoot 99.999% of the time in the daylight, they're perfect.

The reason I didn't list the XS 24/7 sights was I didn't see them priced as reasonably as I did the rest. All the others were available online for 80-85 dollars before shipping. If I remember right the XS sights were a lot more expensive. I'm trying to keep this purchase around 130 dollars including the 30 dollars the smith is going to charge for installation. Thanks for all the responses so far-Please keep them coming.

I'd make sure the XS24/7s fit in a holster. You might check over on XDTalk .com.
