Gun position...

I am going to buy a HD shotgun, and I want to know which direction it should point in my "prep place."

Prep Place: I have a loft bed, mattress on top and a desk under it. I have stairs up to the bed. I want to put the gun inbetween the wall and the mattress, but I dont know which direction I should point it. It will have a full tube (7) but empty chamber with more ammo sitting near by. If I point it at the direction my feet are (nothing in the path of gun except for wall), then it is pointing at me when I get up into bed. If I point it the other way, it points at my head. Quite a predicament. Which way should it go?

When I get old enough to buy a pistol, the pistol will go there and the shottie will go into a rack or in the closet, with my Mauser.

Thanks,

I would point it as near as I could to the direction that bad things might come from, making it easier/faster to employ. I could care less where it is pointed in storage, it won't shoot you without help.
