I was coming home from my friends graduation party at about 3 am. No we were not drinking, we just got talking and it flew by. I pull into my driveway which is parallel to the road. I also live on the corner. I pull in and I see a dark colored SUV pull up the stop sign facing me not more than 25 yards away. Im collecting my stuff but keeping an eye on it at the same time. It sat at the stop sign(no other cars around) for a solid 10 seconds. At this point I became very suspicious. I continue to collect my things/turn off my car when it finally starts moving only it starts creeping up to my car very slowly. I happened to have a spyderco folder in the door panel of my car. I also had my Surefire L4 which I always have on me. As the car finally gets up to my window I see 1 man in the drivers side near me. He is looking directly at me. I look back and proceed to get out of my car with the folder in one hand(closed) and my surefire in the other. Both were fairly hidden behind my forearms. While still looking at me I ask "Can I help you?". He looks a little longer and finally says, " I thought you were (fathers name)" He told me his name and ask me who I was. I told him that I was (fathers name) son. He told me he has a paper route and happened to be driving by. I believe it was my fathers cousin. At the time I didnt feel overly nervous, but I started thinking about how that could have went in a different situation, even if it turned out to be a false alarm. Im only 19, so conceal carry is out of the question (NYS). Not sure if the knife would have been much use. If this truly was a threatening situation, and I could not de-escalate it, I probably would have tried to temporarily blind him with the surefire and maybe used it as a blunt object. Not really sure where im going with all of this. What is your take on the whole situation?
