The $140 1911

I was browsing the SOG website just now and got to thinking.
http://www.southernohiogun.com/surplus_hand.html
1911s are so popular, as is the 9mm loading, and there have been a couple threads lately talking about 9mm conversions and the like.
Sog is selling Star Model Bs in 9mm for $139. Extra mags are $10. Sure it's not technically a Govt. Model, but this gun is 95% 1911 at a fourth the price. The cost of a beavertail. Even considering the supposedly softish metal and used condition, these guns will shoot as well as any other stock 1911 in every important way.
Yet they're not rolling out the door at near the rate of the Makarovs. It just strikes me as bizarre.
HEY, WAKE UP! 9MM 1911S FOR $140!:D

It doesn't sound like they accept standard (is there such a thing?) 1911 9mm magazines.

I want one,but can't have because of California laws.I have shot a couple and they are nice,just make sure you get a 9mm parabellum,not a 9mm Largo.CW

As I understand the guns, they arent 1911. The design was influenced by the Colt but thats it...More like a HP/1911 hybred...
They are probably a very good bargain and Ive been tempted to check them out also....
Shoot well

My wife bought one, they fit her hands very well because they are a hair thinner than a 1911. They don't disassemble like a 1911, though, so be aware of that. Very nice gun, IMHO.

Wondernine, who cares that they don't accept 1911 mags? Star mags are $10.
Oracle, if it strips differently than a 1911, it's probably a good thing. That process could only be simplified.
Like I said everybody, it's 95% 1911, not a 1911. As pointed out, it's slimmer, and that's a good thing.

Does anyone know how reliable the Model B's are ?
__Oracle___ Does your wife's gun function properly ?
I'm wondering if the safety stays in the locked or unlocked position as it should. Nothing like carrying cocked and unlocked without knowing it.
Thanks,

I would bet they are as reliable as your average 1911.
You'll have to figure out what that implies.;)

Because a guy on here said he had bought one and was having malfunctions and I believe he narrowed it down to a mag. At any rate it would nice to get higher quality mags than a star.

That didnt interest me as much as the 1800rds of 8mm for $100. At that price, shipping no longer matters (to an extent).

For that price it might be worth a look see. That's how I ended up with my FEG Pa-63, wasn't really looking but the price was right.
I would drop the extra $$ for a hand picked one.
