Luis Tolley is with the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence. We're not banning any weapons that are already for sale in California. This bill simply says if you're going to introduce a new model into California, if you're gonna design a new gun, when you design that new gun you need to put in these new safety features as well.
With lies like this its no wonder bills like this are passing. SB 489 will categorize every handgun as "unsafe" if it doesn't have a chamber load indicator come January 1, 2006, and magazine disconnect by January 1, 2007. Any handgun that is submitted to the California bogus "safety" test to get California special magic safety certified(except police and state guns) must meet this requirement or be considered "unsafe" and not legal.
This is just another way of banning handguns. Not surprising coming from the people who tell you with a straight face that you're living in danger if you own a gun.
