STI Spartan shoots way high!

I just took delivery of a new STI Spartan pistol. On my first trip to the range, naturally I attmepted to sight it in. The sights were great, the adjustable rear looks to be a high quality unit. This along with the fiber optic front sight made shooting small groups easy. The bad part is after turning the rear sight all the way down, with Remington 230 gr. Ball at 25 yards, the pistol still shot 14" high!
I contacted STI customer service. Chris, in Quality Control asked that I send the slide to them for a taller front sight to be installed. Chris said There had been a problem with the pistols shooting high and STI would install a taller Dawson front sight to correct the problem.
I sent the slide to STI as instructed. within 2 weeks I had it back in hand. I could see the front sight had been replaced and did appear to be a bit taller. I took the pistol out and discovered it still shot 9" high! :fire:
I have now shot a total of 100 rounds. The gun has functioned perfectly although it is a bit tight, (but thats good right?)
I immediately sent Chris another email describing the problem. He replied that I should now send the entire gun to STI. WTH? More $$$ for shipping. I am beginning to wonder about this low dollar entry level gun.

BTW...This is not my only 1911. I have others in .45 as well as 9mm. I have never seen a gun shoot like this before.

Has anyone else had a similar experience with the STI Trojan?

Sights can be problematic in this situation. I had a set of sights installed on my R!A Gi had to get 3 seperate front posts installed before it was right. the second one was right on when the rear sight was at its lowest but I wanted a tough of free play so the rear wight was not bottomed out.

If it's a new gun that's not right why are you paying shipping?

Nine inches at 25 yards is 65 or 70 thou on sight height.

I suspect there is something wrong with the barrel lockup or slide machining.

You should not have to pay the shipping, to get it fixed.

I own both a Trojan and a Spartan. Both were pretty much right on target when I got them, the Spartan from the factory (the Trojan I bought used.)
