I just received my new Benchmade Griptilian 550-SBT -- it appears so far to be the "best" knife I have ever owned!

I plan on using it as my new "everyday" carry knife.

My questions:

Any tips on caring for the knife?

Is it okay to use Militec weapons lubricant on it?

 :D

Thanks...

It's stainless, so you don't need to do much for the blade other than keeping it sharp. Militec is fine, I use it on all of my folders. A q-tip is great for clearing out the pocketlint and crap from time to time. Other than that, there's not much you need to do.

Unless a knife gets really nasty (from yardwork, etc), I rarely do much more than a quick wipedown, swabbing out with the q-tip, and a drop or two fo Militec.

You shouldn't need to use more than a drop (and a very small one at that) of lubricant on the pivot of a folder.

Militec shouldn't harm it. I use White Lightning. Friends use Tuff Glide. Others use 3 in 1 oil. One of the reasons I like White Lightning is that it can be inexpensive when purchased from the bicycle shop when compared to firearms lube (and especially so when compared to the small bottles for knives).

As to the blade - Stainless isn't and rust free ain't. I know people that can cause 440C to rust just by touching it. My approach is to wash the blade off whenever it's used on fruits and vegies (or anything acidic) or when in/around salt water. A light coating of lube will prevent even the most caustic persons :D from hurting your baby.

Thanks for the tips.

This model has what is called SBT on the blade (I think it is a type of Teflon coating) -- it there anything special I should do to care for a knife with this Benchmade SBT blade coating?

Thanks...

With SBT (assuming it is some sort of anticorrosion coating), you will have to do even less to protect the blade. The coating will scratch over time, but there is little you can do to avoid that in an EDC. My EDC REKAT Savant (with coating) is quite scratched up after 2 years, but is corrosion free.
