I whitetail deer hunt in VA and NC. Usually hunt out of stands but sometimes I sit on the groud or walk around. I'm looking for a good monopod or bipod. Any advise would help on which on is the best to get?

I just picked up these and I really like them. I've used them at the range and they seem steady enough. I tried monopods in the store and I didn't like them at all - I had to steady it in 2 directions instead of just one. The monopod beat freehand, but the bipod beat both hands down.

I got the taller version - I can use it sitting, kneeling, or standing.

Have used it from sitting to standing with great results. Very lightweight and compact. Of course a bipod would be more stable(stoney point makes a good one, steady stix I think), but for quick shots the mono is better for me.

I also use the Stoney Point Monopod. I believe it is the expedition model. It's strong and works. You should practice shooting off it however. I use mine primarily for scoped handguns deer hunting. I feel that I need some kind of a rest and this monopod can be adjusted quickly whether you are standing, walking or sitting. I recommend it. Bass Pro sells them as do many others. Like everything else, there is a nack to using them where as the tripods are no brainers but clumsy.

I doubt you will stalk or walk around quietly with a bipod or tripod extended to the proper length. You will with a monopod as it is just like a walking stick.

a frined of mine just got the "sling sticks". I don't use any but he likes them and they seem pretty trick.

Don't they have Trees to lean on in VA and NC? :D

Fella's;

I'm also in the "neither" camp. Get a good sling, like a Turner, and learn how to use it. When you do it's quicker, easier, and quieter to use.
