I noticed that the Hornady 55gr. .224 spire points cost more than the FMJs. Any particular reason for this? Is this a hunting projectile? TIA.

Yes, it is a hunting varmint bullet.
As such, they are much more precisely made then the mil-spec type FMJ blasting bullets.
Accuracy is several magnitudes better then FMJ with the spire-point, hollow-point, and ballistic-tip varmint bullets.

It isn't the spire, as such, it's the total construction of the bullet that raises costs.
