I have never been in the market for a AK but a local Gunstore has a Yugo M70 underfolder for sale for $399.99. The rifle looks almost new.

Why do these AK's hold there value more than most? I would be a AK newbie if I decide to buy this rifle.

It has a black pistol grip and black hand guard. The stock is a underfolder.

Why do these AK's hold there value more than most? Because they're over-engineered to the level of the proverbial brick outhouse.

The reciever is marked as the model M70AB2.

What makes them overbuilt compared to other mid grade AKs?

Definitely get it. You won't find a deal like that anywhere else.

The Yugo's have a thicker receiver and barrel, making them more durable and hopefully more accurate.

Yugoslavia didn't have the capacity to produce large amounts of rifles so they tried to make sure that their rifles would last longer. They are one of the better AK variants out there.

Buy it. 399 is cheap for a underfolder yugo.

The Yugos have a wide trunnion similar to the trunnions found on the RPK style AKM machine guns. The RPKs were squad support AKs that had a heavy barrel and wide trunnion and were designed for sustained full auto fire.

The Yugos used the same trunnion and heavy barrel on their standard guns so they are seriously overbuilt. I have one with about 800 rounds though it and I haven't cleaned it yet. Wondering how many rounds it will take before it starts cycling funny?

Oh yeah, the black plastic hand guards mean a quality Century build on the best receiver on the market. Century usually has a less than great reputation however they did great with their Yugo underfolders. They built them on the Nodak Spud receivers which are the best receivers. The Nodak Spud receivers are identified by the DC Industries engraved on them.

If they say "Vulcan" or "Hesse", you might not want it but the plastic handguards are a dead giveaway of a Century build, Century ran out of wood handguards about a year or two ago and started using the black plastic.

That's a fantastic price on that Yugo! I wish I could run across a few at that price...underfolders or fixed. Here's one I picked up a while back.

Should be marked right below the serial # on the left side of the receiver. Look above the trigger in the pic I posted.

I got a Yugo underfolder from Classicarms a year or so ago,for $429. I'm glad to hear they're holding their value, or appreciating, but I ain't feeling the love here. I wish i'd have gotten the full stock version, or at least the one with the wood foregrips. BTW, Centerfire has sold out of the wood foregrips, anyone know of another source? ( other than paying through the nose and waiting forever with Ironwood).

I believe the Yugo AKs do not have chrome lined barrels, but I could be mistaken. Yugos captured in Iraq look like the inside of the barrels were sandblasted they are so bad. I know their SKS rifles do not have chrome lined barrels. This was because Yugoslavia had no chromium natural resources. Sounds like a good deal at $399, but be very careful about shooting surplus ammo that is corrosive. I don't think you can find the Yugos for less than $499 wholesale these days.

Modern wolf is non corrosive, correct?

MIL-DOT
July 19, 2008, 06:47 PM
Yeah, most everything i'm seeing around is non-corrosive. The only corrosive stuff i've seen lately is certain Yugo brass cased ammo, and if you can find it,the Chinese copper stuff.

Did the Yugo's ship with mags that had a last round bolt hold open?

This was because Yugoslavia had no chromium natural resources.

Yugoslavia is one of the richest chromium exporters in the world.

Click Click, my Century Yugo UF came with 2 of those mags. I didn't even know about them until that. Then I bought a third one, costing twice what usual AK mags sell for.

That is the greatest possible choice for the AK. At least it tells the soldier that his gun is empty. Sure, the bolt goes forward when the mag is removed but the soldier at least is already reloading.

I wonder how many people have died in combat when they really, truly needed that AK to go bang, and all they got was the click on an empty chamber.

More info about the Century builds. Century used new barrels on all of their Yugos, they don't have the shot out bores that a lot of the kit guns had.

I have heard mostly bad things abput CIA Builds. Why is there Yugo build OK? You should use the search feature on your various forums. Both of these questions have been answered many times.

Green Mountain supplies Century the barrels.

Century has learned it's lessons about building with in-house monkeys and now contracts the building out to competent builders. The company who does the Yugos for them is very good.

99% of the new topics on this site could be anwsered by the search option. This is a thread about CAI Yugo's. I just asked a simple question.

I do thank you for the anwser. I have discovered that a lot of information obout firtearms made and imported by CAI and similar outfits has a tendancy to change.

Is CAI still making the Yugo underfolders? I saw one at a gun show that had a $650 on it and cliamed to be new.

After reading this thread and similar Yugo underfolder threads I have seen two complaints stand out.

1.AK sights
2.The folding stock.

The stock makes it hard to get a good sight picture. I dont want to put some huge rail on an AK. Ultimak has a top rail that seems good for mounting a small red dot.

What is the general opinion of the Ultimak top rail?

What optic/red dot would you use on the Yougo underfolder?

After reading this thread and similar Yugo underfolder threads I have seen two complaints stand out.

1.AK sightsAK sights are good for minute-of-man at 200m (what they were designed for). People complain because they want laser beam accuracy out of them, but the Kalashnikov isn't designed for that . .

2.The folding stock.Underfolding stocks suck, in my most humble opinion. They were technologically available at the time of their design, but you see now what the Russians are using. If you want a folding stock in a Yugo AK, I recommend getting a fixed stock Yugo AK and using a side folding ACE stock on it. If you don't like it, you can always put the original wood back on it.

The stock makes it hard to get a good sight picture. I dont want to put some huge rail on an AK. Ultimak has a top rail that seems good for mounting a small red dot. Not sure what you consider "huge", but the standard commie rail mount is quite solid and allows the use of any available commie optic.

What is the general opinion of the Ultimak top rail? I've never seen a complaint about them.

What optic/red dot would you use on the Yougo underfolder?I'd install a commie side rail and use a Kobra.

Is there any possible options of getting the barrel lining chromed after purchasing a m70? I know they don't come chrome lined but if it was possible to get it done afterwards, I would like to.
