in the state of Va can being convicted of shoplifting stop you on the NIC from buying a gun?

I believe only a Lautenberg, a felony and an adjudication to mandatory hospitalization deny you.

Was it a felony shoplifting?

One time over $200 is a felony. Third offense shoplifting, no matter the price, is also a felony.

Shoplifting is wrong and I hope you learned your lesson. But it won't deny you your NICS check. Where in Maine are you anyway?

Depends if it was a felony or misdemeanor. You want to be sure about this beforehand. See if you can write the DA of where you were convicted to get a copy of the statute, or of your criminal record. This will tell you whether or not you can purchase a gun through the NICS.

Oh ok, was going by your username.

And a great way to check (if you are uncertain, not if you know you can't) is to just fill out a 4473 and give it a shot. Unless you know for sure you cannot legally purchase or own one, it isn't a crime to be denied a purchase.

doubtful that it would even come up...we all have made a mistake, or 2 or 7, in our past. follow the right path and you'll be fine.

i do believe most state forms state felony conviction or misdemeanor conviction for spousal abuse...something along those lines.

assuming all else in is on the up and up, you should be good to go.

if it was juvinile, your record may be locked. also, being ejudicated (what they do to juviniles) is not a conviction, so if it was juvinile it doesnt really matter if the record was locked or not because you were not convicted.
