I'd like to find gun nut out here in the Winchester area who owns some land that I could go shoot on. I so much prefer shooting outside to ranges! Somehow I don't think my neighbors in my subdivision would appreciate me shooting my K-9 in the back yard. :)

You know, I'd like to find that gun nut in our area too. :D I hear at least one gun shot in my immediate area daily, but I can never figure out who is doing it. In an ideal world, you could shoot out here where I live. But the subdivision has a no shooting policy. *sigh*

There's that club north of Winchester, I can't remember the name. Go to Shenandoah Sports on Rte 7 and inquire about membership. They have trap shooting and a 200yd range IIRC.

There is also a gun club down around Star Tannery. I haven't been there yet, but soon.

The Winchester Izaak Walton League has an outdoor range. Rte 50 East of Winchester. http://www.user.shentel.net/winiwla/ They have pistol and rifle target setups.

I don't know how it works but there is also a WVA DNR Range on 50 West of Winchester not to far into WVA. I saw the signs when I was riding my motorcycle out that way.

Private land is cool, but you have to walk it before you shoot on it to be sure nobody is on it. I used to shoot on some private land in Ft. Valley and the kids in the area were always riding ATVs and such on the property. So we had to run them off before we could start shooting. The guy sold it so I don't have that problem anymore. I used to have enough land in Clarke County to shoot on, but alas no more.:(

Good luck finding a place you like.

That would be nice. I belong to the NRA range, which is indoors. If we could find such a person, maybe a NoVA/Metro area THR get-together would be in order.

We used to do those on a small scale out at the west side range in GW natl Forest. It's just across the line in WVA off rt 33 headed west from Harrisonburg. Rough terrain, and it's a bit of a drive, so we made a weekend of it and went camping too. Search TFL for the word MATFLCS (Mid Atlantic TFL Camp Shoot) Good fun.
